Two thoughts on the AI Overviews ads rollout: 1. My guess is this isn’t the last iteration we’ll see of ads inside AI Overviews. It’s a high stakes game for Google to get this right, with search ads being such a large proportion of their revenue. 2. We still don’t know what CTRs look like from AI Overviews. How Google implements text ads will give us a clue though: If the normal AI Overviews organic links have a high CTR, we may see sponsored links in there too. If the AI Overviews organic links DON’T have a high CTR, Google will need to do something totally different with text ads, or the cost per click model won’t be profitable.

⚠️ Ads are coming to AI Overviews ⚠️ As predicted, Google is bringing ads to AI Overviews - and it's set to shake things up A LOT. These sponsored ads pop up alongside AI-generated search results, giving businesses a prime spot to reach potential customers. Here's what you need to know: ✅ No Extra Work If you're already running Search, Shopping, or Performance Max campaigns, your ads could appear in these AI Overviews (although, for the moment, you may not have much control over them). 🚩 Prime Placement While these ads appear below the AI-generated answer, they're still in a high-traffic area in that space between the AI Overview and the usual links below. 📊 Limited Reporting Unfortunately, you can't track the specific performance of these ads - yet! We eventually expect this to change. ❌ No Opt-Out Google's got these ads locked in place. If you're running Google Ads then you're going to be part of the rollout. This may change, but with Google's advertising arm likely to want to measure the revenue impact of running ads in AI Overviews, they'll want to gather as much ad data as they possibly can. 🌐 US-Only (For Now) This initial rollout will only be visible to US-based mobile users. As with the initial AI Overview rollout (as the Search Generative Experience), Google will likely want a lot of data and time to process how people engage with these ads before they fully roll them out globally. But they're coming. So be ready. In the meantime, focus on and optimise your website to appear in the organic AI Overviews (we've a how-to video linked in the comments below). What do you think? Are you happy to see these ads roll out? Are you excited to get your business featured in them too? Let us know in the comments below!

Very curious to see what this is going to look like. Apparently, studies show that conversion off ads in AI Overviews are higher than regular search ads. We shall all see.

Thanks for the insights Tim. Do you know if there are any tools available to give insights on which keywords generate AIO and which don't?

Great take on this mate, I completely agree that this is likely just the beginning. Google's ad revenue is indeed a huge part of their business model, so they'll be iterating and optimizing this feature extensively.
