I reviewed an article about NDIS overcharging claims. Who would have thought that a system set up to support individuals with disabilities could be open to exploitation from ex-NDIS Participants? Are they prioritizing profit over actual care and concern? This is unacceptable. We can never let the most vulnerable among us be preyed upon. This is not a question about trust and integrity. This is about the right to be treated fairly as a human being. We need transparency and accountability to ensure every dollar is allocated effectively where it matters. We need to fight for reforms & the rights of so many people who rely on this essential support. #NDIS #DisabilitySupport #Accountability #Integrity #ReformNeeded

You know, in the disability space there is a saying “Not about us, without us”. It speaks to inclusion and consultation at all levels. Yet there continues to be a lack of inclusion and consultation in the NDIS. I’m not talking here about the NDIS review and the new legislation, definitions etc. although yes, those are topical and important issues at the moment. What I am talking about is at the planning level. When the decisions about funding are being made. When the NDIS was started, planners would actually meet with and talk to participants about what they want and need. Now, so often decisions are being made based on reports and policy, by people who never even speak directly to the participants. How can this be happening? One has to question who is making these decisions, what qualifications and experience they have, and what are the guidelines they are basing their decisions on. Because not even talking to the person you are making the decision about is…well, I have no words to even begin to describe what is wrong with that approach.

At our most recent Redland Disability Network meeting we discussed the importance of language when speaking to, referring to, and writing about #PeopleWithDisability We're 10 years in with the #NDIS with the goal for a more inclusive society, one where #PeopleWithDisability are acknowledged, respected and included in all aspects of society. And then there's this, from a registered #NDISProvider whose webpage is littered with commitments to #QualitySupport, #PersonCentredSupport, #Respect, espousments of the skill, commitment and qualifications of the Director and staff etc. etc. etc. One wonders what the thinking is in the organisation, how this got there, and why it remains there, if this is an organisation subject to the highest level of scrutiny the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission imposes. #PeopleWithDisability deserve so much better than this 😡

I can’t sleep. Because I just know tomorrow will bring bad news about the NDIS reforms bill. And it will be utterly devastating for the disabled community. There should be nothing about us without us. One in five Australians are disabled. And you can become disabled at ANY time, believe it or not. Yes, the NDIS needs to be changed. But not like this. It needs to be co-designed with us. There has NOT been enough consultation with the disabled community. We could make it better, together. But I can’t help but feel like that won’t be the case. In a few hours, we will likely know. Please let these fears be wrong—please let them wait, and let us co-design any changes together. Lives literally depend on it #NDIS #NDISReforms #NDISBill #Disability #DisabilityAdvocacy #DisabilityCommunity #DisabilityRights #DisabilityAdvocate #AusPol

Civic joins disability sector organisations in raising the alarm on NDIS market failure. The recent NDIS price review is a devastating setback for people with disabilities and the providers who support them. Barriers to high intensity support payments, yet again no increase for support coordination & therapy prices, and flawed cost models threaten essential services. Participants are vulnerable and providers are on the brink. We call on the NDIA to reinstate loading for all registered providers of at least 1%. #4aBetterNDIS https://lnkd.in/gAvnWz2H

Standing in solidarity with fellow CEOs, we wish to reiterate that the recent NDIS price review is a devastating setback for people with disabilities and the providers who support them. Flawed cost models threaten the continuity of essential services. Participants are vulnerable and providers are on the brink. We call on the NDIA to reinstate loading for all registered providers of at least 1%. #4abetterNDIS #NDISReform #SupportPeopleWithDisabilities #SupportNDISregisteredproviders
