This article provides a helpful summary of the changes to Section 504 and the ADA and when these new updates will come into effect. The biggest change is that these laws are adopting the WCAG 2.1 AA standard. This will require entities funded with government money and recipients of Health and Human Services funding to meet these standards. The article also highlights the exceptions and how these laws might lead to more accessible digital experiences. #accessibility https://lnkd.in/gQjdbqcy

Accessibility should be on everyone’s list of what’s important in their brand. As a designer these are things I think about with my designs. Who’s the audience and is it accessible for them.

It was so exciting seeing our name on BBC News as a good news story for one of our recent customers. Even better it was one of the over 55 local authorities in the UK & Ireland using Recite Me to help make their websites more accessible and inclusive. But what does that mean though? On one level that is doing what we are most well known, assistive tools, allowing users to make adjustments to suit their needs. the WHO reported 8/10 people who need assistive tech don't have access to it, which is why it is so important for organisations and businesses to offer it. However, the WHO also say: 'Access to assistive technology and accessible environments is complementary – without one, the other is of little use. A user of a manual wheelchair cannot wheel up steps; and a screen reader user cannot hear a website that has not been made accessible. Similarly, accessible environments without access to assistive products can defeat the purpose.' This is why we also developed WCAG 2.2 Compliance Checking software to ensure the build of your website is accessible and compliant with accessibility industry standards. To supplement this we also have Accessibility experts who run workshops, website audits, training sessions, and consultancy about how to be truly inclusive. I don't know of another UK-based organisation that offers this level of accessibility support and expertise. Some focus on one area over another but in reality Accessibility (WCAG compliance) + Usability (Assistive Tech) = True Digital Inclusion. #DEI #EDI #Accessibility #ReciteMe #AssistiveTech #DigitalInclusion #Neurodiversity #Dyslexia #ADHD #Autism #VisualImpairment #WCAG #Website https://lnkd.in/eTPcpjxS

Do any of these occur on your website? 🧑💻 The answer is probably yes. And the fact that so many sites are inaccessible for one reason or another is concerning. There are many reasons to be alarmed - from the fact that it denies someone with a disability access to the upcoming legislation, which will mean companies will be held responsible for ensuring equal access. The new EU Accessibility Act (EAA), which will come into force in June 2025, covers a wide range of products and services, with a particular focus on digital accessibility. To help you prepare for the EAA, join accessibility experts Adela Buliman and Zonja St.Clair next Thursday, March 21st, at 12:30, for Time is running out: How to ensure your digital assets comply with the new EU Accessibility Act. Does your organisation conform to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, or WCAG? Created by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), WCAG are part of a series of recommendations focused on ensuring online content is accessible for people with disabilities. This was one of the key areas of focus for a project I worked on in collaboration with the World Health Organisation, and has shaped how I approach design and digital accessibility going forward. If you’re interested in understanding a little bit more about accessibility and disability prevalence, check out my initial post on the subject below. ✍ Post: https://lnkd.in/e6SfACnQ 🚀 Project: https://lnkd.in/emkk4Npi

Why do we need Global Accessibility Awareness Day? A quarter of a century later and we still don't have enough awareness, support, knowledge, buy-in for accessibility. It is improving, but slowly, we need even more advocates. https://buff.ly/3UEu1qj #GAAD #A11y #Accessibility #DigitalAccessibility

Working in the ‘world of accessibility’, the reality we face is that the physical and the digital must be designed for equal use by all people. With approx 1billion people globally living with a disability in an increasingly digital world, we continuously design digital and physical ‘spaces’ for fully-abled bodies. As a business, consider the inclusive aspect and invest in your communication platforms which will demonstrate your company ethos and will automatically increase the customer base (abled and disabled) which then increases revenue, simply, because your socials and website is digitally accessible/barrier free. #accessibility #digitalcontent #disabilities #marketsharegrowth #barrierfreespaces

On April 8, 2024, the DOJ announced the final rule requiring state and local governments to implement web-based accessibility standards per WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Counties with populations of 50,000 or more must comply by April 2026, while smaller counties have until April 2027. This regulation underscores the importance of digital inclusivity, ensuring all residents can access essential government services online. @CivicPlus #WebAccessibility #ADACompliance #GovTech https://lnkd.in/efYMEQ_u
