Over 10 years ago, we built a Drupal distribution, the Knowledge Management Collaborative, for the United Philanthropy Forum that serves as a hub for their member philanthropy-serving organizations. We recently updated it to the latest version of Drupal, which allows members to leverage its benefits to the fullest–better content layout capabilities, improved commerce integration, event registration functionality, Salesforce integration, and generally just a more flexible architecture. We know that this may sound a bit technical. You might be thinking, what does this actually look like in practice? (We’ll show you!) Last month, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) published a final rule under Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) that requires websites and mobile applications provided by state and local governments to meet WCAG 2.1 AA #DigitalAccessibility standards. Businesses should take heed: the new rule could be a blueprint for a similar revisions to Title III of the ADA, which could mean ‘‘public accommodations’’ -- or businesses open to the public -- would need to ensure their websites are accessible for all visitors.
