🌟 One Year Reflection: My Journey at Indiana University Bloomington 🌟 This isn’t a typical LinkedIn work update post—it’s a personal story of growth and perseverance. It’s been a year since I began my Master’s in Computer Science at IUB, and the journey has been full of learning and growth. Switching fields is never easy. After earning my first Master’s in Mathematics and Computing from IIT Guwahati and working for almost 4.5 years, I felt the need to dive into something new. Pursuing a second Master’s, especially in the USA, seemed like a far-fetched dream. During my first Master’s, I relied on my uncle’s support due to financial constraints, and even after working, I continued to face those challenges. Despite this, I decided to take a leap of faith—and here I am, proud of what I’ve achieved so far. From completing a summer internship at MyEdMaster, to securing a Graduate Teaching Assistant role, and stepping into the Schedule Director position at WTIU/WFIU, these accomplishments feel like milestones I once thought impossible. Today, I felt it was the right time to share these small but important milestones and stay hopeful that this journey of growth continues. As I continue to develop my skills, I’m also actively seeking full-time opportunities in software development, data science, or related fields. Just finished a cool new project: Chat with PDFs using Gemini 😎 From this project, I've learned different techniques like extracting text from PDFs, creating chunks of the text, converting it into embeddings, and storing these embeddings in the vector database (FAISS). 🏆finding + selecting hackathon teammates. finding teammates who are not only talented but have a persevering mindset and work effectively with others can make or break both your hackathon experience and win chance. 1️⃣finding: -your university/friends. just people who love building things. they’ll probably be at the entrepreneurship center or be involved in engineering clubs. club people have good chances of having experience. if u dont have friends (i didnt at the time)(now my fav uni teammates are Mohammad Alshaikhusain, Uzair Mohammed, and Aidan Gollan shoutout xP) then go online. cue next step. -👾discord servers. the hackathon organizers will release a team-matching discord channel / online messaging space. works if you are an introvert, but is even more strategic. Larger volume of people who might be willing to team, and are already planning on going to the hackathon. i highly suggest going the discord route rather than waiting for in-person matching events. if you search on discord early, you will likely find people more aligned with your idea rather than being shoved last minute into a team on the day of the hackathon. 2️⃣selecting: -skills before title. disregard what university or internship they had. ask for their githubs to see if there have been consistent commits. -projects. have they worked with similar tools u are aiming for developing in the hackathon? do the have demos or repos that verify? lastly, if you are not landing teammates, it is likely a sign to work on yourself. build projects outside of hackathons to increase github activity and showcase tangible demos on your profiles. I just completed Walmart USA's Advanced Software Engineering on Forage . In the simulation: * Completed the Advanced Software Engineering Job Simulation where I solved difficult technical projects for a variety of teams at Walmart. * Developed a novel version of a heap data structure in Java for Walmart’s shipping department, showcasing strong problem-solving and algorithmic skills. * Designed a UML class diagram for a data processor, considering different operating modes and database connections. * Created an entity relationship diagram to design a new database accounting for all requirements provided by Walmart’s pet department.

Reflecting on an Inspiring Experience at GirlCon 2024 Digital Conference 🌟 Last week, I had the honor of leading a workshop at GirlCon's Digital Conference, where we dived into navigating internships as high school students and explored pathways into STEM fields. 💻 Workshop Highlights: Engagement with Future Leaders: Interacted with over 30 enthusiastic students, sharing stories and absorbing their incredible ideas and aspirations. 🔑 Key Discussions: • Balancing demanding schedules while pursuing personal and professional growth. • Strategies for securing internships and making meaningful connections in the tech community. • Addressing and overcoming imposter syndrome from high school to professional environments. 🌟 My Takeaways: The drive and creativity displayed by these young women were profoundly inspiring. Their questions were thoughtful, ranging from how to start in tech to detailed queries about long-term career planning. It reinforced my belief in the importance of mentorship and community support in fostering the next generation of tech leaders. 🫶 A Big Thank You: A heartfelt thanks to GirlCon for this fantastic opportunity to connect, share, and learn.
