“Matt is a thoughtful and effective leader with a keen understanding of the dynamics that help cross-functional product teams perform at a high level. I had the good fortune to partner with Matt and his design team on multiple occasions over nearly three years and enjoyed every interaction. When initiating or progressing an initiative, Matt’s clear vision and strong focus on open communication meant that stakeholders understood both the “why” behind each effort and the desired outcomes. His customer- and user-focused approach to UX research regularly helped our product management team consider different viewpoints and make smarter system-level decisions. Matt also excelled at developing a happy and effective team. I count him among those few exceptional leaders that nurture the team's environment – creating latitude for staff to act and succeed independently. In our workplace, this approach yielded a talented and committed group of designers and researchers that contributed at a high level to numerous complex product initiatives. I would be enthusiastic about working with Matt again in the future.”

This work extends the metaphor of a see-through interface embodied in Magic Lenses(TM) to 3D environments. We present two new see-through visualization techniques: flat lenses in 3D and volumetric lenses. We discuss implementation concerns for platforms that have programmer accessible hardware clipping planes and show several examples of each visualization technique. We also examine composition of multiple lenses in 3D environments, which strengthens the flat lens metaphor, but may have no…
