Worked phone bank, calling community members using specialized software system. Our goal was to verify and grow voter support by recruiting other volunteers for phone banking and canvassing. Worked Friday mornings in food pantry. Our team was focused on stock rotation, inventory management and flow. We picked and packed fresh, canned and frozen foods into bags, emptying the pantry, coolers and freezers to make way for new stock. Then we unloaded food trucks, dated food, rotated stock and stored it for the next week's donations to people with food insecurity. Then we unloaded food trucks, dated food, rotated stock and stored it for the next week's donations to people with food insecurity. We primarily served Rogers Park, Edgewater and Evanston, and it was incredibly inspiring to work with other volunteers to help people get decent meals for themselves and their families. We also had special packaging for homeless, food that doesn't require tools to open and eat. I love, too, that our team was very diverse, and we were united in serving people who really need it.

    Ward 49 Participative Budgeting (Chicago)

    Economic Empowerment

Chicago's 49th Ward debuted participative budgeting in the USA in 2009. The Alderman turns over most of the ward's capital budget to citizens, and we have a defined process in which all residents, regardless of immigration status, to decide how the capital budget is spent. Community reps are in charge of research community members' ideas, reporting progress and vetting them in a transparent process, and we present the vetted projects on the ballot so residents vote on the ones they want. The Chicago Social Empowerment Cohort is a group of nonprofits that learn to use experiential social media to empower people who are often overlooked by “the economic system.” These partners address inequality by teaching their beneficiaries how to be more independent and live better. They are mentored by CSRA to engage their donors, volunteers, members, partners and other stakeholders, and they'll also have collaborative learning opportunities to increase their learning and business results.

This cohort also has a strong environmental component woven into it because I personally want to benefit Earth and mitigate some of humankind’s destructive impacts, and I’ve learned that most other people do, too, especially when doing so helps them live better at the same time.

I developed the strategy for alliances that were a cornerstone of our ability to accelerate clients’ scale. Developed the alliances model, and conducted roadshow in which interviewed VCs, attorneys, incubators, marketers and recruiters known for successful portfolios of start-ups. By rapidly mobilizing alliances, quickly brought outside expertise into the accelerator, which enabled ramp-up of dealflow. Worked with launch team to pioneer accelerator model for several other locations worldwide. Also served as strategy consultant to B2B startups in the program.

    • Opened a nouvelle cuisine restaurant in Chicago as sous chef under CIA-grad Richard Grasso. The concept featured (U.S.) American classics such as beef stew and chicken pot pie, but using Escoffier methods and sauces.
    • Opened Kalamazoo's first pasta bar concept restaurant as sous chef, and became chef. Limited all-casalinga menu (pasta, some meats/secondi piatti) inspired by Marcella Hazan. Innovated numerous northern Italian dishes based on 3 years experience living in Italy. Managed kitchen and staff.
    • Worked various stations in other Chicago restaurants; notably fish grill, sauté and ribs.
    • Worked as a line cook and in banquets in the Kalamazoo Hilton under Chef Marcel Bonetti.
    • Cooked in a Tex-Mex restaurant in Austin, and several American fare restaurants in Saugatuck.
√ The smallest stove I've used is a candle. I can cook almost anywhere!
