Dive into the art of clear communication—what are your strategies for steering back on course?

To restore clarity and unity in a disorganized team, I would hold a meeting to address the miscommunication and encourage team members to share their concerns. I’d clarify the original messages and correct any misunderstandings. Establishing clear communication channels and implementing regular updates will help keep everyone aligned moving forward. Fostering a culture of transparency will also rebuild trust and cohesion within the team.

If there is miscommunication or misinterpretations in communication amongst team members, the first step is to understand the best platform to clarify - should this be a brief team call, Zoom or can this be a brief email, with a bullet for each issue? In any case, follow-up any written clarification with an in-person or digital team call, and go over it once again. It sounds arduous, but it is worth the three to ten minutes now rather than hours of work lost later.

Clarity is driven by thoughtful, open communication. In case of any misinterpretation or misunderstanding, it is best to first listen and understand the multiple perspectives. Once it is established that a dissonance exists, a mediation should be created between the parties. This could be an in-person or virtual connect - as long as it is a safe space for them to discuss their individual understanding of the situation and reconcile the difference.
