Loading... Maman construit un nid (edition 2015)by Jennifer Ward (Author), Steve Jenkins (Illustrations)I really enjoyed this. I can't quite give it five stars, as that rating is for books I'd recommend to everybody. But I do highly recommend this picture-book for fans of birds, and of art, as well as for families and other educators. If I'd discovered it when my kids were little, we probably would have bought our own copy. Author's note and list of further resources included. ( ) A nonfiction text yet one that also has storytime capabilities. I realized that I need to use this one! Children learn so so much with books like these--or so I have found. I don't want to be hit over the head with facts but "Mama Built a Little Nest" does it in a subtle way. So be prepared to learn about all the different types of nests different birds make. Some are made from spit. LOL Mama built a Little Nest is a book a bout birds’ nest, in the baby bird’s point of view. The book tells the reader facts about how the nest is made and different variations of nests. For example, a nest can be in numerous locations: in a tree, underground, on water, in a web, or in a whole. It can be a good bedtime story because at the end there is a scene in a bedroom with stuffed animals on the bed and the last line in the poem is a comforting line saying how an analogy is a nest to a bed. I didn’t really enjoy this because it wasn’t that interesting but It was good for a children's book for kids who like nature and going to sleep in a bed. I did think that the fact that it rhymed made it 10x better. I would recommend this book for kids who like nature and I’d suggest reading this for a bedtime story. I liked this book because it seemed to be a great non-fiction choice for kindergarten. It had great repetition throughout the pages, which kindergarteners could catch onto and join in. Along with the repetition on each page, each page also provided interesting facts about the specific birds being mentioned. I think it's set up to be fun and engaging to students, while also teaching them facts. I liked the layout, the pictures and illustrations, the repetition, and the non-fiction aspect. |
