Beechwood is a small senior living co-op in Troy, NY. We have 60-65 residents, many of whom are avid readers. Our “leisure reading” library is small - approximately 1,500 titles, and our Library Committee administers the library. The library has six “distributed locations” 1 - 2 locations per floor. Most books are fiction, a small number are non-fiction, and we prune the collection annually before adding new books.

I am the volunteer “librarian” for Beechwood’s library. The collection had not been inventoried prior to 2015 when I moved in, so I tackled that task using an Excel spreadsheet. However, that’s simply not easily accessible to my neighbors, so Library Thing and Tiny Cat are our next step in managing this collection. My background as a museum collections manager suits me for this task. BUT, more importantly, it’s time to provide much better access to the collection than our inventory, AND it’s time to invest in a system that will be easy for future “librarians” to manage to keep this little library going. Looking forward to getting Beechwood’s library into Library Thing and to making this wonderful information easily accessible to residents via TinyCat!
