This book was hard to put down because my mind kept coming back to the same staggering understanding: "This isn't fiction; these things actually happened!" Vietnam Diary is basically a journal of one soldier's experiences in the Vietnam War, beginning at the day he was drafted into the U.S. Army and continuing through his two-year tour. "Hardships" seems a mild word to use when referring to those things endured by soldiers in the war. Many lives were drastically altered, many permanently lost. And yet, amid the brutal trials, there were moments of humor and friendship and kindness. After reading this book, you will understand to a much greater degree the harsh sacrifices made by thousands to defend the human right to be free. This book is definitely a worthwhile read.… (more)
