What an interesting story this was by a new-to-me author. A Distance too Grand is a unique take on the post-civil war era in America when the Grand Canyon is being studied.
I found the characters likable and realistic in their hopes and dreams. I really enjoyed how they kept pushing forward despite many obstacles and difficulties in their path.
Can I just talk about the photography aspect? It was so interesting to read about the process and 'experience' the art with Meg. I honestly felt that I was at the Grand Canyon with her and behind the camera, seeing the beauty through the lens with her.
The middle was a bit slow but otherwise, I loved it.

Sudden Mail Order Bride is the delightful start to the new Frontier Brides series. I enjoy Regina Scott’s clean, historical, Western romances that always leave me smiling & this book’s no exception.

This story introduces us to the darling Willet family who owns the Jumping J Ranch in the Pacific Northwest territory. The Jumping J is named after the ten Willet siblings who all sport red hair & a name starting with J.

Charming Jeremy Willet decides to secretly correspond with a mail order bride after the woman he set his sights on rejected him. He’s shocked when she turns up at his family’s ranch looking forward to marrying him.

Caroline Cadhill’s looking for a new start after her father was falsely accused of a crime in Ohio & her brother disappeared. After writing to Jeremy for some time, she decides to go visit him hoping he’ll propose to her. When she arrives, she’s surprised to find Jeremy hasn’t told his family anything about her. She agrees to a proper courtship after Jeremy’s mother insists on nothing short of true love. But, when the past comes back to haunt her, will she put her new found family in danger?

I thoroughly enjoyed Jeremy & Caroline. Despite his charm & good looks, Jeremy feels a bit overshadowed as the third son. Being jilted by the woman he thought he’d marry doesn’t help his confidence either. Spending time with Caroline he finds she’s not only beautiful but hardworking, kind, & thoughtful & is determined to win her heart.

Caroline knows what it’s like to lose everything & struggles wondering if she’s enough for Jeremy. I loved how once she was confident in her abilities & sure of her love for Jeremy, she didn’t shy away from going after what she wanted.

The road to happily ever after isn’t smooth though. There’s a bit of mystery surrounding Caroline’s family which leads to some danger & suspense towards the end.

All in all, a fun, enjoyable start to a new series! Can’t wait to read about the next Willet sibling finding love. I received an advanced complimentary copy from the author. All opinions are my own and voluntarily provided.

My Review: I expected to enjoy this book as a light and somewhat serious historical romance and what I found was that and more with the descriptions of the Grand Canyon, reading about the beautiful depths of the canyon was so interesting and is was as though I was there – which would be amazing – the details were written so we’ll. This did end with some sadness but much sweetness.

Rating: 4 stars,

Recommendation: 16 up for romance and slight violent mentions (can give details if wanted.)

Verse: Deuteronomy 13:4 Ye shall walk after the Lord your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him.(King James Version.) (Not only was this verse the verse of the day, but it also fits the book and how the characters needed to grow.)

Disclaimer: I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

Never Hire a Hero is quite an entertaining read, and one that was quite unexpected.

Stephen Roth is hired by Thea to be a tutor to her two sons, but what neither Roth nor Thea know is the powerful influence Roth with infuse into the household that is still in mourning after the death of their patriarch.

Roth pairs with the children nicely, and some of my favorite parts were the whole family doing normal things, like taking a meal together, and bearing witness to their interactions as Roth instructs the children. It’s clear from the beginning they all have an undeniable chemistry, as Roth is able to turn this household on its head and help for the better.

There were so many scenes that captured my heart, and the more I read the more I fell in love, which isn’t surprising since a marriage of convenience is one of my favorite troupes.

I do have to admit that this novel took me a few chapters to get into. I was a little bored until the mysterious occurrences intensified and then I couldn’t put it down. I did guess the culprit early on, but it didn’t take away from the dramatic ending whatsoever, and I was elated to see such a picturesque resolution.

Overall, the novel has a nice flow, the characters are wonderful (especially the children), and I loved the overall premise. Though it does have a slow start, it is well worth it to stick it out as it ended up being a pretty fun read that put me even more into the holiday spirit.
