I didn't enjoy this quite as much as the other two in the trilogy, but it's very much of a piece with them. Kirk surprisingly defeats death again. Every (much-younger) lady swoons for him. There are mind-melds. Kirk, Spock and McCoy are reunited. They work in concert (though sometimes suspiciously) with the crew from TNG. I can't say I didn't like it, because the Reeves-Stevenses are lots of fun. Of course, it's all vastly in its own little canonical universe, not really connected even to any of the other books in the Star Trek canon - just its own little Shatnerverse.… (more)

The Reeves-Stevenses have done it again—an entertaining romp in which the TOS and TNG crews (with some assists from Julian Bashir) reunite to destroy the Borg. Obviously super non-canonical, but who cares? Kirk is resurrected by Borg + Romulan technology and brainwashed into thinking that Picard killed his family, kicking off a revenge quest. Picard goes on a mission to Borg space where he has to pretend to be Locutus. And Spock discovers that V'ger was indeed an early Borg contact, which has left Borg tendrils in his mind. The whole thing winds up with a three-way mind-meld that made me giggle with delight.… (more)

I enjoyed the humor and the "back story" proposed by this novel. I really laughed over the final few chapters. There's a moral .. but it would ruin the tale to tell it. Also I do suspect we have some Section 31 in this book as well, even if it is not named as such.
Original reading: Read from December 12 to 13, 2010
