- He attended Southwest Kentucky College at Winchester, Kentucky; Vanderbilt University at Nashville, Tennessee, and graduated from Transylvania University at Lexington, Kentucky. He spoke on the 1st Annual Bible Lectureship of the Freed-Hardeman College Lectureship in 1937. In 1948 he received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Abilene Christian College in Abilene, Texas. In his earlier years in Texas, he was president for two years of Thorp Springs Christian College. He has also served as guest teacher at Abilene Christian College. For a number of years he was front page editor for the Firm Foundation, and in charge of the Texas Department for the Gospel Advocate.
