Only read for the part about his childhood... preaching to the chickens. That part was worth squinting for.

Drawings too dark and font too small for my old eyes. Why do graphic artists do that to us? Or is it partly the fault of the publishers who can't be bothered to make the book full size? (Though in this case it would have to have been an oversize coffee table book.)

I honestly was a little disappointed by this. I thought it was going to be a collection of things John Lewis has spoken on throughout his life, but the writer just sat down with John Lewis and asked him questions. The topics are short so they're an easy read, but I just...it wasn't for me.

[[John Lewis]] - that two word review would suffice. Having read his memoir, [Walking with the Wind: A Memoir of the Movement], I was armed with the details of Mr. Lewis' rich and important life. These three graphic novels form around the conceit that he is telling a couple of visitors about his life on the day of President Obama's inauguration. The art, mostly in grays, is beautiful and moving. And boiling down each important event of his life to a few pages helps to quicken the story in the reader's heart, boil them down to their very essence. At the very least, this is a more digestible format for newcomers to learn about the civil rights movement - which is extremely important in today's fractured political and social environment.

If you want to know more, read the memoir, but at least read these and get to know one of the most important figures in our recent history - more important the MLK or Malcom X by leaps.

And, Restore Voting Rights!

5 bones!!!!!
