amandabeaty | 2 other reviews | Jan 4, 2024 | After Jack Mason’s sister and brother-in-law die in a plane crash Jack is determined to get custody of their daughter (his 5-year-old niece Arabella). When his lawyer friend suggests Jack find a nanny and marry her to keep Child and Family Services away (who want to take Arabella from him) Jack knows this is something he must do. When lovely Annalise Stefano shows up for an interview, he finds the perfect lady who will fill these qualifications. What he doesn’t know is that Annalise is keeping a big secret of her own.
This was a very sweet romance. I enjoyed the storyline about Arabella and how she blossomed with the love and caring she got from Jack and Annalise. I liked the large dog (Madam) they adopted for her. Annalise was an outspoken and efficient heroine. Jack was a pretty decent and caring hero and really went out of his way to help his niece.
A thoroughly enjoyable read by Day Leclaire with a great ending.

Jack Sinclair's plans for revenge against his father's legitimate children, the Kincaids, are set back when he learns that Nikki Thomas, the woman he has grown closer to over the past few months, works for the Kincaid Group as a corporate investigator. Jack's problems are compounded when he becomes the prime suspect in his father's murder. Can Jack put his pride aside to ask Nikki and his half-siblings for help in clearing his name?
This is the conclusion to the multi-author series. While each of the books focuses on one of the Kincaid siblings, they also contain short snippets detailing the progression of Jack and Nikki's romance. As this book begins well into their relationship, it is necessary to read these short chapters to understand both their characters and the ongoing story arc revolving around the murder of Reginald Kincaid.
While some of the twists in the book have been obvious from the start, i.e., the identities of both the secret shareholder as well as Reginald's killer, the development of the romance and the resolution of the mystery are satisfying.
Jack and Nikki's chemistry has been evident from the beginning of the series, and each of the short snippets only contributes to their appeal both as individuals and as a couple. It takes a skilled writer to provide the wealth of detail and characterization that Day LeClaire does in these sections. LeClaire builds on and enhances these in this concluding book. I am particularly grateful that she avoids the pitfalls of the keeping secrets and miscommunication tropes as both Nikki and particularly Jack behave like adults rather than whinny children.
Another highlight, aside from the wonderful romance, is Jack's interactions with his half-siblings as he finally allows himself to open up to the possibility of a relationship with them and to become a member of the family his has always longed-for.
Overall, this has been an entertaining series although books #2, #4 and #6 are the best.

Lauren2013 | May 5, 2023 | This was 2 novels in one. Both of them by some pretty competent authors. These were not however, their best work. They each in my opinion deserved 2 stars - they were okay.
The Bachelor's Bed by Jill Shalvis
The hero, Colin, askes the heroine, Lani, to pretend to be engaged to him to get his mom to stop trying to fix him up so he can work on an invention without distractions. She keeps forgetting it's pretend. Worst part is she lets him know it. I was embarrassed for her for most of the book. Writing competent but not great. Characterizations pretty light. On the whole, not as amusing as some of her later books. If you're a fan you might read it but otherwise pretty forgettable.
Accidental Wife by Day Leclaire
The heroine has created problems for herself by lieing about being married in order to keep her boss from pestering her. So she goes to a Cinderella Ball to find a guy to marry. She ends up with the boss's brother who of course is trying to keep the other two apart, not knowing that she doesn't want the boss. Okay so even though this is a romance novel, what the devil is she doing marrying a total stranger and going back to his hotel with him? He could be a wife beater or an axe murder. The story was just too unbelievable. The writing was okay but not up to DL's standard. Of course the story was written 14 years ago. Again if you're a fan of the author not a total waste but otherwise not so great.

Luziadovalongo | Jul 14, 2022 | Total fluff and I'm sorry to say not in a good way. It had a lot of potential but the author went for saccharine instead of any attempt at reality. And the bad woman? The idea that any of the stuff that she said about taking the boys away from the heroine would have stood up in any sort of court of law was just ludicrous. Hmm...

Luziadovalongo | Jul 14, 2022 | Marginally better than the other one I just read in this series. This is not my type of writing. There is little to no detail or attempt at realism. No real indication of how much time is passing, no attempt to make these people's lives in any way realistic. It's all rainbows and unicorns, smoke and mirrors. It lacks any concreteness at all.
Then at the end someone sees the hero kissing another woman and when the heroine asks for an explanation the hero refuses to explain and is all insulted and walks out on her and their marriage. And he thinks she's being so unreasonable. It seems to me that if she had just accused him and kicked him out that would be unreasonable. Asking for an explanation is reasonable. Just think of all the other harlequin books whose dilemmas could have been solved if someone had just said "hey I saw you kissing some other woman, care to explain?" See? Reasonable.
I have some other books in this series but I think I'll give them a miss. It's odd but I've read other books by this author that were not this vague, half formed sort of writing. Hmmm, again.

Luziadovalongo | Jul 14, 2022 | Totally different hero. If you've seen The Big Bang Theory the hero is very similar to Dr Sheldon Cooper. He is totally scientific. He writes a computer program to find a wife. He is very literal and he can't understand sarcasm. He does seem to have more of a sex drive though. Since I'm a huge fan of TBBT, I really enjoyed this book. The hero Justice and the heroine Daisy were young lovers who were torn apart by her parents when their love affair was discovered since they were both underage. He has resented her over what happened to him at that point but they can't stay away from each other after they meet again years later. There were a few continuity problems. The story starts 10 years after their teenage affair. That makes him 27. Two years later they get back together again and he is still 27? Minor detail I know but it still bothered me and threw me out of the story. Other than that I found it well written and quite amusing in places.

Luziadovalongo | Jul 14, 2022 | I quite liked this one. The hero is a nice honorable man. The heroine is in no way a wimp. The story is well written and the plot makes sense and is well developed. The emotions of the hero and heroine were believable. I see shades of other books to come but this is not just a big setup for future books. The characters that I suspect might have stories in future books all have a part to play in this one. All in all a very well written story.
Okay this has a short story about the hero's brother Rafe at the end. so I went looking for an actual book about Rafe. All I could find was another short story at the end of a different book that is supposedly Rafe and Sarah the 3rd part. Where is the 2nd? and is this not going to be an actual book on its own? I'm confused.

Luziadovalongo | Jul 14, 2022 | Solid read. The plot was plausible. The characters well developed. Some angst from her thinking he was dead and him letting her because he thinks she has moved on with her life while he was assumed dead.

Luziadovalongo | Jul 14, 2022 | Another nice story in the Dante's Inferno story line. This one was pretty believable once you accept the Infernoness of it all. I liked the characters. I especially liked the Grandmother of the heroine. I think the story would have been even better as a full length novel so there would have been room to really expand sections of it that were constrained a bit by the length. It was told almost entirely from the hero's POV and he was a good solid character.

Luziadovalongo | Jul 14, 2022 | This one just didn't do it for me. I thought the idea of one twin stealing his brother's fiance and marrying her without telling her was a very interesting idea. But the way it went was kind of dumb. She meets the right brother (the hero) first. He is then sent out of town on business and the wrong brother somehow convinces her to marry him. All this in 6 weeks. The right brother comes home and convinces her to elope with him. So she does and then doesn't even get very mad when she finds out. So she just came across as DUMB. She loves the hero somehow after all that and only spending 3 days with him, chooses him over her fiance when she finds out the truth. Stretched my willing suspension of disbelief until it snapped I guess. I was hoping for better from this writer.

Luziadovalongo | 1 other review | Jul 14, 2022 | A great one for my amnesia fix. This story was very different from almost anything I've read before, although it did have some similarities to a book I read 30 years or so ago. Still very different and kept you frantically turning pages. Maybe it wasn't very realistic but come on, that's not why I read category romances!
The writing was very good. The story was full of drama and angst. The characters were wonderful. It was told almost entirely from the hero's POV. He was not an ass but he did some questionable things which he then worried over. She was sweet and charming. The magical Inferno that the men of the family had when they found their soul mates was at first a bit hard to believe in but I just went with it. It wasn't a huge part of the plot but was eventually an interesting twist.
I won't go farther into the plot, since I don't want to spoil it, I'll just say if you like amnesia stories, this one is great. I'm going to try another by this author and if it's as good as this one, I'll have a new author to add to my favorites.

Luziadovalongo | 1 other review | Jul 14, 2022 | I enjoyed this almost a second chance type of romance. Bought this at the local library and have given it a 4.5* rating. Not for the under 18 readers because of the sexual content. This was a little different version of romance and dealt with amnesia. It also takes you to the Caribbean area which was pretty interesting. Interesting characters in this, helped this story to move faster. On to my next.½

He was now fighting custody for his niece. His lawyer suggestion the only way he was going to keep his niece Isabella was to marry. Jack swore he would not marry ever.
Jack has his reason for this. You find out about it in the book as your progress but he was looking for a nanny for his niece and did he find a wife he could not let go. There are secects that get revel though this romance book.

When they're out of that room, in An Officer and a Millionaire, Navy Seal Hunter comes home for some R&R, and finds himself already married for a year by proxy to Margie & she's taken over his town, suite of rooms and is in cahoots with his ailing Grandfather. Now what to do? In Mr. Strictly Business, Gabe hasn't forgotten Catherine & doesn't understand how they broke up. But his assistant is undermining them at every turn.
