Very cute. She's such a clever little girl, always ready to solve problems and make everything better. FotL Chanute.

LFL find. Cute enough, but I never did understand the audience of chapter books with main characters who are too young to read. I found the episodes just a bit boring, too. Sorry.

Simple, nice, wholesome historical fiction. Might be special for the right child at the right time, but I guess I'm too jaded.

3.5 stars rounded up because I felt like I learned so much about what it was like to be a Jewish family in the 1920s *not* in NYC. Mostly a cheerful book, but since it's (apparently) inspired by the author's mother's childhood, it has real life hardships, too.

Better, imo, than All of a Kind Family in that it explains why a son is desired so much that they try six times.

Very nice boy. Quietly told but fairly big episodic adventures in the daily life of a kid in NYC in that slice of time that had CDs but not cell phones. I'm rounding down from 3.5 stars simply because I don't quite recommend to most people, just those especially interested for their kids' sake (not likely to appeal much to those of us who read kids book just for our own interest).

Hurwitz is an author I'd forgotten about. I used to like her, and will now read what I can find by her as I've rediscovered her by actually visiting my library (! it's open again!) and pulling my own books from the shelves.

When a childhood illness leaves her blind and deaf, Helen Keller's life seems hopeless indeed. But her indomitable will and the help of a devoted teacher empower Helen to triumph over incredible adversity.

This biography tells about Anne’s family and their lives before the Second World War, the Nazi persecution of Jews, and Anne’s years in hiding. Johanna Hurwitz’s readable, direct style enables young readers to share Anne’s childhood dreams and to feel the tension of the years that followed.

This is a great book for ages 3-6 Russell is a 4 year old who doesn't want to go to school because it is better to be a baby at home like his sister. His mom says ok for him to stay home but makes him do everything a baby does . this means no tv and no big boy toys. The mother also shows Russell that its is nice to be big because baby food is gross. This is a great book for children 3-6 Pierce College Library

Personally as an adult, I thought it was a little band but I wasn't reading it for myself. My kids (ages 6 & 3) enjoyed out and it had them giggling at times. Plenty of cute black and white illustrations, several in each chapter. Overall it reminded me of the Ramona books with a boy as the main character. I think the appeal to kids is that it is very ordinary and the exciting events and problems that occur in each chapter are ones that they as children actually face, nothing far fetched or crazy. Unlike another popular series starring a first grade girl (Junie B. Jones), Monty is polite and helpful, a good role model for problem solving.

This is a great read for older elementary students. It is a great book for a student that is just beginning to read chapter books. This book could also be considered a biography but I categorized it as Historical Fiction because some parts of the story are dramatized and the pictures are more childlike. Altogether I learned about the life of Helen Keller and what amazing things she accomplished in her life. This book can teach children the lesson to never give up no matter how hard life becomes. It teaches this through Helen Keller’s challenges and accomplishments. Helen Keller was born without vision or the ability to hear. At first this was a challenge but she persevered and succeeded. Helen Keller even went on to graduate college and accomplish many great things. This book briefly discribes her life story including the people that affected her the most. The book discribes her struggles and how she never gave up. These details suported the message that no matter what it is important to never give up. We can accomplish great things even whe we struggle. I would definitely recommend this book for children due to the information and message it conveys.
