Sometimes you come across an original idea and your brain just doesn’t know what to do with it. This was weird and strange but good all the same. It was hard to get into at first since it’s written in a way that assumes you know what’s going on and the “rules” of the world building. Once you get past that hump it’s a weird ride. The ending was great and broke my heart. If you’re looking for a “not your typical possession” story than this is it. It has some decent action and it’s packed with originality. I’d say give it a go!… (more)

I do enjoy slow apocalypse speculations. What do people do with the last years/ decades, especially if they're not sure that it really is the end of the world? In this case, pretty much what they always do. Beautifully written, with, imo, an insufficiently developed SF aspect.

I've done a lot of drugs in my time. Part of the excitement in doing (and reading about) drugs, is that you always end up in endless spirals of funny, terrifying, exiting, wonderful and utterly weird situations. However Afterparty does not want you to partake in any of that. There's nothing funny going on, nothing scary happens, and not one single line would make you raise your eyebrows if the story was told as a late night tale.

In a desperate attempt to spice it all up, the writer half-heartedly tries to blend in a sci-fi aspect, but even that is rather unimaginative and boring. In the end you're left with silly drug fiction, that's about as interesting as a leaflet telling kids "Don't do drugs".

There's mountains of better doped up sci-fi novels out there: From Philip K. Dick, to Jeff Noon, to Michael Marshall Smith and William S. Burroughs. Life is too short to waste on bad books about bad drugs.

This is a surprisingly tender, heartwarming, charming book! Told from a mix of POVs and across timelines, it manages to be both an interesting exploration of family life and a page-turner. I wanted to know the characters better while also being heavily invested in the plot.
