Scott M. Gibson (DPhil, University of Oxford) holds the David E. Garland Chair of Preaching and is the director of the PhD in preaching program at Baylor University/Truett Seminary. He is cofounder of the Evangelical Homiletics Society and the author or coauthor of several books on preaching. Karen show more Mason has an MA in Old Testament and a PhD in counseling psychology and is professor of counseling and psychology at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. She is the author of Preventing Suicide: A Handbook for Pastors, Chaplains, and Pastoral Counselors (InterVarsity Press, 2014). show less

Sermon stealing is a great temptation in today's age of internet-accessible, ready-to-download homilies. Gibson exhorts preachers to live by the higher standards of integrity, honesty, and diligence that they proclaim from the pulpit. Though brief, the book is well-researched, readable, and highly relevant. I commend it to every man and woman who prepares oral messages for religious settings. It would make an excellent supplemental reading for college-level homiletics classes.

A compilation of essays in honor of Walter Kaiser, Preaching the Old Testament offers practical guidance for pastors seeking to preaching from the Old Testament: how to refresh Hebrew skills, apply narrative, interpret poetry, understand New Testament quotations of the Old Testament, and preach the Old Testament evangelistically.
