About the Author

Norman Geisler was born on July 21, 1932, in Warren, Mich. A fervent believer in the inerrancy of the Bible, his books When Skeptics Ask and When Critics show more Ask provide answers to those who question discrepancies in the Bible or challenge its authority. In Legislating Morality, he discusses why laws should be passed and enforced to create a moral, Christian society. Geisler is a frequent speaker and debater, providing learned answers about religion and society. He was educated at Wheaton College, the Detroit Bible College, and Loyola University. He is currently the Dean of the Southern Evangelical Seminary in Charlotte, North Carolina. (Bowker Author Biography) show less

I have always appreciated Geisler's approach to apologetics, so was interested in his perspective in the arminian/calvinism debate. If you are interested in following the conversation between dispensationalists and reformed (note: White is a Reformed Baptist) theologians, and are willing to patiently read both perspective, there is a series of books written, from both perspectives. I think this is the first (although there are plenty of earlier books, the next book specifically responds to Geisler's arguments. Follow with The Potter's Freedom by James R. White. White is more gracious than the average reviewer on Amazon and here on Librarything, but he does believe Geisler incorrectly describes calvinism (as does nearly every reformed reader, it seems) and writes an incisive response. I wish Geisler had been able to write in a way that his opponents would be able to disagree, while agreeing with his terms and portrayal of his opponents. However, I do think that Geisler correctly represents the ambivalence the average reader of the Bible sees in Scripture, and I can understand why the book was received so well.… (more)

Can modern people, schooled in science, seriously accept any notion that God created and can overrule the laws of nature? Geisler describes "signs," "wonders," and "power" and contrasts what the Bible means by a miracle with bizarre stories of saints, faith healers, and occultists.

Wow! There's a lot to chew on in this book. It offers logical steps on a faith journey - even if that seems oxymoronic. From Einstein to Jesus, it's a remarkable read.
