I’m okay with the fact that I wasn’t smart to fully appreciate this book which I don’t believe inherently took away from the experience that is this brutal and philosophical horror treasure.

It made my brain stretch its legs and honestly, it was refreshing since I was actually relating to philosophy via a medium I understood; horror. For me, that is brilliant talent.

If philosophy is a point of interest then this will be an absolute delight. And even if it isn’t, myself included, you’ll bask in the rage, the clinical detachment that sends shivers down your spine, the abhorrent ‘tests’ and clicking the pieces together that make this book work.

It’s raw and honest with the MC taking to extreme matters to prove theory, to understand and to destroy everything even humanity itself.

Alright…. What do I say… for such a short book I needed a long time to process this one. I reached out for an ARC of this one because I saw someone review it and talk about how dark and gross it was. I was like eh it’ll be fine… but… this book is twisty and dark and gross. Like so gross. I adored that it was written like a research paper. It was an interesting format because like all of the torture is for the sake of some deluded research goal of the main character.
I think it made it intriguing on a psychological level to see how the main character justifies all of the things she’s doing. At first it’s to prove some kind of point. However, most of her experiments have some personal revenge/vendetta motive. I will say with each case study the experiments get darker and more intense. Once we get towards the end of the book they definitely become more personal and therefore more terrible.
I only gave the book four stars because the last few chapters lost me. I mean you could see the main character was devolving into her insanity, but like I’m still not sure what actually happened at the end of the book. However, it isn’t a book I will forget anytime soon. If you read this one I would recommend a light fluffy read to immediately follow it… because oh my god! I honestly think this might be one of the darkest things I have read to date.

Very stream of conscious. Super witty, cynical, and contemplative.
