Best-in-Books: Jubilee / Greenwillow / This Great… by Nelson Double Day
Review for Greenwillow, J. B. Chute: Got into this short novel/story by the inside cover preview. The setting is totally fictional and really could be from the 18th, 19th century peasant village setting. The people of Greenwillow were living a life lead by religious morals, superstitions handed down by previous generations. This story may stimulate thinking regarding how valuable is it to tell our offspring untruths, especially religious untruths that frighten little children. There was some very light romance, ending consisted of the young man struggling to use his senses to respond to his heart leadings verses the traditional fables handed down by his father's family. Good humour and some serious moments, changes of seasons all in about a year's span. Overall good read.… (more)

A fascinating read - much of the data is outdated, but the information available in this 587 page tome is truly interesting - even romantic. Fully illustrated with detailed maps and photographs.
