About the Author

Doreen Cronin was born in Queens, New york. She grew up in Merrick, Long Island. She attended Pennysylvania State University where she majored in journalism. Eventually she found herself using her journalism background in the world of publishing. and she turned her sights toward law and attended show more St. john's University School of Law. She went on to work as an attorney in a Manhattan Law firm. She wrote her book Click, Clack, Moo, Cows That Type in 1995, shortly after the death of her father. It took another five years, however, before the book was published. She stated in her bio that this book was not only her first published book but also the easiest book to write, taking her only about 20 minutes to jot down the story. The book went on to become a Caldecott Honor Book. While the book eventually met with great success, publishers rejected it repeatedly for several years until a publisher eventually called her with the news that it would be published. Her success as a children's author continued with books such as Diary of a Worm published in 2003 and winner of Parent's Choice Award Slver 2003 Picture Book, Diary of a Spider published in 2003 and Rescue Bunnies. She made the 2013 New York Times High Profiles List with her title Click, Clack, Boo!: A Tricky Treat. (Bowker Author Biography) show less

Trying to compare the original with the new ready-to-read edition... somehow they don't seem the same in my mind.... Can any of you see them side-by-side and tell me?
----------------
Finally did get a chance to compare them side-by-side and they are exactly the same. Whew.

In some ways this is my favorite of the series. I mean, come on, you gotta love the pigs rehearsing their interpretive dance! I found a copy at a thrift store to save for my (still hypothetical) grandkids.

Well, it looks like it's highly unlikely that I'll have grandkids. But I do know a certain young family who wants my kids' books, to out they go.

"Born to be Wild" sings the duck, of course. Like he'd last two minutes out there. Well, otoh, he's clever so he could probably con predators and unwelcoming wild ducks alike.

This time the bit that made me giggle was Farmer Brown in disguise. Again, even a toddler is in on this joke and knows that this disguise is not an effective one.

Slight, but not unworthy. Good for predictions - encourage your child to hypothesise why Duck stayed in the truck, and to predict what might get him out. Good shout-0ut to libraries and reading, too.

A silly mix of fact and fancy. Not intended to be educational (unless you want to teach the kids fact-checking skills) so no back matter. Might help get ppl less afraid of spiders, who are actually very important to both a balanced ecosystem and human comfort.
