This book is an informational text on koalas. It shows pictures of how a koala cares for her joey and has information on where they live and other interesting facts about them.

Not my personal favorite. Premature, I think, as we didn't get to know the tapirs well enough, because they are so evasive they are hard to study. Otoh, anything from Sy Montgomery in the Scientists in the Field series is worth reading, and worth buying for libraries.

Science as a verb. The nitty-gritty, the hard work, the attention to detail, the heartbreak.... This book is absolutely not just for kids, or just for parrot fans.

Anyone looking for a career, or a second career, should consider what they can do for the creatures our human self-centeredness has displaced. This book, without being annoyingly preachy, makes it clear why.

Btw, as of Jan. 12, 2018, the population count of Kakapos is at 151... great progress!

And, on a tangential note outside the book, if you don't follow species' recoveries, you might be surprised to learn how much we've been able to help whooping cranes, California condors, and American bison, for example. Look 'em up.… (more)
