Condescending, snobby, I truly thought it was by a Pom, along the lines of Michael Winter's reviews, or a rather bad piss-take of Taki's columns for The Spectator which I did fined amusing, but this book is just bad. There are better guides to eating and travelling in France, try R W Apple, or A J Liebling for two.

Delightful book with an intimate view of Paris - If you are visiting Paris take this book with you rather than any of the "guides". Paris is a city not to be inspected but to be tasted, smelled and enjoyed and this book is by an author (& his friends) who loves Paris and can help you to love it too.
Reading this book is the next best thing to being there.

I really enjoyed reading this but it is really old fashioned. Think nouvelle cuisine. Huge amounts of cream. Who eats this?

Notably retro; the preparations have more of a touch of Escoffier than is common in European chefbooks e.g. voluminous catalog of classic potato preparations
