"You made this mess. If you're truly sorry, you'll help to clean it up." This is the second book of the series that I've read, and I saw one tv episode of it on youtube. Pretty cute, and wholesome, if you're into that kind of thing.

Darling, but I think reviewers here are a bit biased - it's getting rave reviews cuz a strong young girl saves a prince and gets to follow her dream to be a knight. It's far from the best fairy tale with a gentle dragon or a strong princess. Please, folks, read the richer, juicier, [b:The Reluctant Dragon|226284|The Reluctant Dragon|Kenneth Grahame|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1389064727s/226284.jpg|2196462], and 'most anything by [a:Jay Williams|93565|Jay Williams|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1444904158p2/93565.jpg] including [b:The Practical Princess and Other Liberating Fairy Tales|783165|The Practical Princess and Other Liberating Fairy Tales|Jay Williams|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1178305861s/783165.jpg|6733952], and even [b:The Paperbag Princess|549408|The Paperbag Princess (Story Corner S.)|Robert Munsch|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1175715301s/549408.jpg|844184].

Otoh, I do feel that there's a good chance that Jane's further adventures are better developed, as Baynton got more practice and support, and so I will look for them.

Btw, a shout-out to Candlewick Press, probably my favorite children's publisher!

(edited to add - apparently this is a tv show... episodes avl on youtube... I just watched one and it was cute enough...)

This series of house-shaped fairy tale picture books has been a favorite since childhood. Recently, my 5-year-old neighbor has been begging to read them because she's fascinated by the formatting of the book. This one, Hansel and Gretel, was the first we read together. She loved the way the pages unfold from inside the house, but ultimately she was unimpressed with the story, writing a review that simply said, "I don't like it." (It may have been a bit long for her taste; she likes quick, fast-moving stories.)… (more)
