Adonis' greatest work. To quote one literary historian :
[...] it was with [this] volume [...] that Adūnīs first established himself as an entirely distinctive voice in modern Arabic poetry; indeed, in the view of some critics, the lyricism and coherence of this collection, in which the author adopts the persona of the medieval poet Mihyār to articulate his personal vision of the world, has never been surpassed.
