South Korean Game Rating Board Charged With Embezzlement

The South Korean government launched an audit into the company due to a petition from citizens about unfair treatment towards certain games. The Korean government's audit seems justified as charges have been made against the GRAC for embezzlement.

South Korean Game Rating Board Charged With EmbezzlementKorean gamers were in for a surprise when the GRAC was charged with criminal conduct this month. The South Korean ‘Game Rating and Administration’ organization that gives ratings to games has been accused of embezzlement by the Korean government. According to Insight Korea, the GRAC changed the age rating for the game Blue Archive from 15 to 18 years old.

This caused a petition to be created by citizens citing this as an unfair rating for the game. With over 5,000 signatures, the Korean government launched an audit of the company and found potential evidence of around $46,000 being embezzled into funding Bitcoin mining.

After this audit, most of the head executives at GRAC resigned. Lee Sang-Heon, a South Korean representative who led the audit request, said the following: “The truth hidden in this audit by the Board of Audit and Inspection was a suspicion that would have sunk to the surface if it were not for the 5,489 users who participated (in the petition signature campaign).”
