Protector Sentinels are a specialized variety of Forerunner Sentinel similar to the Super Sentinels.[2][3][1]

Overview[edit]

The Protector is one of the oldest classes of Sentinel built by the Forerunners, originally used by the Forerunner fleet in vast fleets as escorts for fighter-bomber squadrons. Over time, their role evolved to suit localised defence, leading to their deployment on a range of installations including Installation 00.[1] It is unclear whether this evolution involved a literal evolution from the larger Protectors found on the Ark to the smaller Protectors found on Trove.

During the Second Ark Conflict, Ellen Anders was able to use her expertise in Forerunner technology to take control of a number of Protector Sentinels.[3]

Armament[edit]

Protectors are outfitted with a high-powered beam emitter capable of cutting through energy shielding and ablative armour plating.[1] When destroyed, they self-destruct and emit an electromagnetic pulse to disable enemy technology and vehicles in the nearby area.[3]

To supplement their own offensive power, Protectors may be sometimes deployed alongside an escort of Aggressor Sentinels.[3]

Blitz card[edit]

The Protector's Blitz card has the following attributes;

Image Name Rarity Energy Cost Role Faction Leader Restriction Y-Ability Passive Abilities

Phoenix Log[edit]

Forerunner defense constructs controlled by Professor Anders.

Exclusive to Professor Anders, the Protector Sentinel is a flying Forerunner drone armed with an energy-based sentinel beam that is effective against all enemies. It can be upgraded to a sentinel swarm, which adds smaller Aggressor drones as an escort. Sentinels explode in an EMP blast upon death, stunning nearby enemy vehicles.

Professor Anders has shown a remarkable ability to manipulate Forerunner command codes and bypass directive locks, giving her the ability to bind the Ark's own defense constructs to her will. The full extent of her capabilities have yet to be tested, as the Professor's attention is constantly diverted to more pressing needs like finding a way home.

Production notes[edit]

During the development of Halo Wars, a design for a cut Sentinel boss - intended to appear as an enemy in the campaign level Cleansing - was concepted by Phil Wohr and modelled through to final game asset by Robert Walden.[4][5] This model (shown below) remains in the game files of Halo Wars: Definitive Edition albeit untextured. The early design was later reused almost unchanged as the Protector Sentinels introduced in Halo Wars 2.
