hmmmmm. well, like in Brundage's last novel, All Things Cease to Appear, I loved every single sentence. but, unlike that novel, I didn't wind up caring about any of these characters. they were rendered complexly, but I was missing the spark, whatever it was, that made me interested in them. it isn't a matter of likability – I love unlikable characters – but something else, something more nebulous. meh. ...more
