I am a black American woman who was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. My mother and her sister raised me. I endeavor for a multihyphenate career in the arts. I wrote The Canary Journal: a novel with the goal of empowering myself. A woman builds a nation. When other women see one woman living in strength, they absorb that empowerment. My heart is found in books, my treasure is stored there also. If life imitates art, my life has bonds of art and love. Once I suffered loneliness that refused to yield, I learned to sustain peace and joy within myself. I started wanting abundance for others in the same capacity I want for myself. More women will have to use creativity to keep themselves solvent, particularly since the pandemic. We are ...more

I would remain a literate black woman in both worlds who challenged notions of black women's attractiveness, intelligence, and beauty. A woman who exudes beauty, attractiveness, and intelligence is indomitable.

I would be a woman joyously in love with my husband who works not far from Gilbert Blythe. Anne would notice my joy and wonder about the state of her marriage. Plus, I would have one child, a daughter, and still have my own interests.

I would be friends with Eva Luna. Our friendship would be healing and symbiotic. Eva Luna would realize that her madrina fell into unfortunate circumstances that were outside of her control. Physically, I resemble her madrina yet remained in healthy spaces. But without a gold tooth and still flirtatious, I would work as a nightclub singer and have a longtime romance with a composer. We would produce one daughter from the romance who occupies herself with books. I cook for my loved ones and wear stylish clothes every day. I have my own home and car which I don't lend to anyone. I'm grateful for books that present honesty with sex. How else will anyone learn? Boundless wonders erupt when we pair truthfulness with sexuality. Particularly for those of us who live in sexually reticent homes.

I wanted it longer!!!

I learned a long time ago that you don’t need to reveal everything inside of you to the people around you. They like to judge, and I’m happier when they don’t. Some things stay hidden.
