I laughed, I cried (multiple times), I internally screamed, I was so angry I wanted to throw the book, but most of all I cherished every moment of this book.

Maas definitely knows how to write deeply developed characters. I mean of course we all know Maas is a genius at fleshed out storylines and world building. Her characters though? They get so deeply wrapped up in my heart that I am honestly going to be in the biggest book slump of my life because I already miss every single character. Bryce the main character is top notch. I adore everything about her, from her outfits, her “take no shit” attitude, her friendships, basically I love her. Throughout the book we slowly learn more and more about Bryce and with each new thing I learn, I found myself relating to her and caring for her so much.

“That’s the point of it, Bryce. Of life. To live, to love, knowing that it might all vanish tomorrow. It makes everything that much more precious.”

Not to mention all of the amazing side characters. Such as; Danika, Ruhn, Connor, Lehabah (who is quite frankly my favorite), Declan, Flynn, Juniper, Fury, and so many more that I can’t think of. Like I said before, Maas just has a way with her writing style that you can tell she put her blood, sweat, and tears, not only into the main characters but into the side characters. EVERY single character had a huge part of this story and I love all of them. Ruhn was one of my favorites and his protectiveness of Bryce was like no other and I love him for that. Lehabah with her sassiness and bad tv shows was hilarious and she has stolen my heart. I mean some of the characters are only around for a short period of time, but you get this connection with them that makes your heart full and your smile brighter.

Onto Hunt, oh Hunt. I always have a male character who simply put: makes them swoon worthy. I mean Maas did create Rhysand and he is the ultimate crush I have. I knew I would love Hunt, but DAMN I didn’t know I would love him so freaking much. His banter with Bryce had me laughing out loud, I mean their whole relationship was a blast to read. As we learn more and more about why he is such this dark brooding character, I can’t help but cherish him just as much as I do with Bryce.

“Memento Mori. Remember that you will die. It was meant to be an invitation for merriment, to seize each moment as if it were one’s last, as if tomorrow were not guaranteed, even for slow-aging Vanir. Remember that you will die, and enjoy each pleasure the world has to offer."

One of the main reasons SJM will be one of my all time favorite authors is her world building. She puts so so so much thought into everything, I swear I can envision this beautiful world. Full of fae, witches, vampyr, mer, sprites, wolves, and I wish these places that she creates were real. She does such a fantastic job at being descriptive and giving us back stories, but not overwhelming with information. She does it over 800 pages and by the end when I am bawling my eyes out and think it can’t get worse, she writes something that puts my heart back together. I am obsessed with this new series and cannot wait for the next book. I can’t wait to see more characters come into the picture, as well as, find out more back story of some of the ones that were introduced already. ...more "
