About Me. . .

-I believe that those who don't read, have never found a book they enjoyed. Some day, I hope to write the book that gets those people to read.

-As a high school English teacher, it is my goal to get my students to enjoy reading.

-If I could take only one book with me on a deserted island, it would be The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. . .or The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater.

-I frequently quote movies and am known to have entire conversations in quotes.

-I love the smell of books and I don't like to bend their bindings. Don't even ask me to borrow a book.

-I have always wanted to compete in the Olympics in equestrian. Sadly I'm too much of a chicken
to jump so that eliminates 2 of the 3 disciplines.

-I was once an

I have grown quite attached to Celia and would like to see her get her own happy ending. It's still in the early stages, but is definitely in the works!

I love Lauren Oliver and Maggie Stiefvater for description for example. If I am writing in third person, and don't know how to move on, I read a book in third person and see how that author handles it. Plus, reading a really good books gets my creative juices flowing and makes me want to write. And then, of course, I go write, even if it is only a few words. (less)

Finding Inspiration

As many of you already know and some of you are figuring out, my writing process is a bit slow. I am not the kind of author who can finish 2, 3, or even 4 books in a year. I am lucky if I can finish and publish 1! Mostly, this is because of my day job, in addition to directing the plays and musicals at my school. I also have two little girls who both are into competitive Taekwondo. We are at the s Read more of this blog post »

Briana Stevenson Hey, how are you? I just got on here, but I wonder if you have an actual book club on here? I haven't read in a long time, and I would like to, but I would like some ideas on what I should read.

Briana Stevenson Sara wrote: "Briana wrote: "Mrs. Heacox I see that you are attending the event for the Twilight Movie release. Is that the one at the mall in Hot Topics?"

No, it was just to see the movie on opening day.

Okay just wondering because there is something going on at Hot Topics at the mall with the DVD. It is some sort of party or something like that.

Britney "The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but
shorter tempers, wider Freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more,
but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and
smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees
but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more
problems, more medicine, but less wellness.

We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little,
drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too
little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom. We have multiplied our
possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and
hate too often.

We've learned how to make a living, but not a life. We've added years to
life not life to years. We've been all the way to the moon and back, but
have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer
space but not inner space. We've done larger things, but not better things.

We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We've conquered the atom,
but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but
accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more
computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we
communicate less and less.

These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small
character, steep profits and shallow relationships.

These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but
broken homes. These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway
morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything
from cheer, to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the
showroom window and nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can
bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share
this insight, or to just hit delete...

Remember, to spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not
going to be around forever. Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks
up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave
your side.

Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the
only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn't cost a cent.

Remember, to say, "I love you" to your partner and your loved ones, but most
of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from
deep inside of you.

Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person might
not be there again. Give time to love, give time to speak! And give time to
share the precious thoughts in your mind.

AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments
that take our breath away."
— Bob Moorehead

That was a quote that I found I thought you would like it!

Briana Stevenson Mrs. Heacox I see that you are attending the event for the Twilight Movie release. Is that the one at the mall in Hot Topics?
