The Next Picks (prompts)

Each of the books you read for your Picked Shelves (per Genre) are to be used as starting point for each of below prompts (ie. 1 book cannot be used for more than 1 prompt).

1. Readers also enjoyed: Using one of your books, read from the "Readers also enjoyed" section.

2. Similar authors: Using one of your books, read from a similar author. On the author's page, click on the 'similar authors' link for a list of authors.

3. Object on cover: Using one of your books, read another book which cover has a similar specific object*. Object must be obvious so if it's something you're not sure of, that you have to ask someone for their opinion, it does not qualify.
*object
noun
a thing that you can see and touch and that is not alive

4. Best of: Using one of your books, read from a "Best of" list for the year/decade/century that book is published (this will depend on date of publication and availability of list)

5. Wacky Shelf: Using one of your book titles, read from a shelf with a word* in title

HELP!

For the shelf benders game: I am working on the Nonfiction genre.

Since I have so much nonfiction on my Lost shelf for next year, I was looking to cross-plan with this game.

I am trying to plan Staying Well With Guided Imagery: How to Harness the Power of Your Imagination for Health and Healing for the Self-Help shelf of this genre. However, I have been through 25 pages and can't find it listed even though it has Self-Help as its first MPG. AND GR will not let me go beyond p. 25.

Nor does the book page show any addition helps: lists that the book is on, a list of genres beyond the main page and thus no notes on how many listed it for self-help.

Can I use it for this game?

Sorry, Bea, there's barely any shelvers for this book so it probably won't fit on anything... can only work with 25 pages per shelves. Should've thought of this earlier on, sorry

I was just looking at the Music shelf here and noticed that a preponderance of the books on the list are fiction instead of non-fiction. Do they still count here, or does it have to be a non-fiction book?

Lyn, I think this is an advantage of the definition in terms of shelves (which maybe makes up in part for our not being able to use books with smaller numbers of readers?) - if people shelved it there, it's eligible. As an even broader example, I'm going to be reading a book for Humor that's been shelved in "Stand-Up" though it has nothing at all to do with comedy. It's about standing up for yourself or a cause.

I've been rethinking my choices above (message 17). I'm just not sure I'm up for reading 400+ pages in The Righteous Mind: Why Good People are Divided by Politics and Religion. It's really helped me to look at the choices the rest of you have made. There are some good options there.

But I've discovered how tough it is to make changes in this particular challenge. If I replace that book, I also have to replace the Next Pick book that goes with it. Which raises a question I hadn't thought of before: Can the word for Wacky Shelf be in the subtitle of the "My Pick" book rather than the main part of the title?

this would be one of those books i draw out and read like a chapter a day - maybe that is how you could get through it

I've used FBI which is in the subtitle of the book I chose. I just assumed it would be OK because it is part of the Goodreads title. Hopefully its OK. Crossing fingers.

I've requested it from the library, and will give the one-chapter-a-day idea a shot. But meanwhile, I found that I liked the idea of a book Joanna chose. So I might switch to that.
