Molly Grant works as a matrimonial attorney in a firm known for being tough on their new lawyers--so tough that they earn a large bonus if they survive five years on the job, money Molly desperately needs to pay of her school debts and repay her parents who've struggled to help her financially. But Molly doesn't really fit in with the demanding clients, detached lawyers, and her extremely scary boss. One wrong move, and her boss will turn on her, and Molly will lose everything she's worked so hard for.

The problem is Fern Walker, ex-wife of a powerful man who is intentionally depriving her of their children, and poisoning them against their mother. Without help, Fern will lose them for good, but Molly is told not to get involved.

But she can't turn away from this helpless woman, and decides to take a big risk--to be Fern's lawyer, and hide it from her boss. Failure will have permanent consequences for both their futures, so Molly has to win--and keep under the radar.

Molly isn't the stereotypical shark of a lawyer verbally attacking witnesses and hunting for money. She's trying to keep her head down, to take care of her parents, and yet she worries about people it isn't her job to be concerned about. Trapped between what she's told to do and what's the right thing to do, she makes the choice that leaves the reader rooting for her. No matter how impossible her chances of success seem, she keeps going. An often-funny read, despite the frightening bosses and self-centered clients.
