Creepy and suspenseful!
Would it make sense if I say the book was super-slow but at the same time fast-paced?
Penny, who is an elderly woman, has been living alone, contentedly, albeit with a bit difficulty, in her house after the death of her partner.
But after a nasty fall from a chair, she finds herself at a care residence surrounded by trees, with three other elderly people for company.
It’s not right. It’s not good. I’m not safe. Not here. This place is bad.
But where is she, really? What is she doing there? Is it paranoia or something is very wrong with the house?
Thanks, Chris for recommending this book to me. 😊

Intriguing review. I've read Foe and I'm Thinking Of Ending Things, but given my 3 star rating of both books, don't think I'll be reading this one.

Thanks, Ian! I have heard that this one is quite like I'm Thinking Of Ending Things. I haven't read it, so I can't be sure.

I am glad you had a decent time with it. Sorry the ending was not expected. Fantastic review, mon ami!

It was more suspense than horror, albeit a dark one.

Excellent review, Helga! I really enjoyed Iain Reid's other works such as Foe and I'm Thinking of Ending Things. Your review entices me to pick up this book. Cheers!

I'm glad you enjoyed this book (if "enjoy" is the right word for it)! It's one of my favorites that I've read in the past few years. So much suspense and so moving. Great review, Helga!

Thanks, Theresa! I'm glad you loved it too, albeit the heavy subject. I agree about the suspense; it kept you on your toes! :)
