it was amazing
bookshelves: fantasy

This was every bit as good as The Alloy of Law. The whole Mistborn series really is fantastic reading!

Wax, Wayne, and Marasi are back on the case of another mystery. This time they need to stop an assassin from killing the governor of Elendel. To complicate matters they also have to stop the civil unrest in Elendel from boiling over into a full blown riot.

The story was a ton of fun. The Wild West setting is still proving highly entertaining and the story was highly addictive and engaging. It was packed full of the action, mystery, and humour that one expects from a Sanderson read. As an added bonus we even get to meet a few more familiar faces from the first trilogy. I'm all for that sort of nostalgia!

This ended with a few shock twists that have left me dying to read the third instalment of the Wax and Wayne adventures.

If I have a tiny criticism it is that the promising romance of the first series fell a little flat in this one. So much so that I even pondered jumping ship!

All in all I loved this latest Cosmere book.

Rating: 5 stars.

Audio Note. Micheal Krammer is as awesome as always.

1.0% "You’re after the bounty on Joe,” she said.
“Sure am. You too?”
She nodded.
“Split it?” Waxillium said.
She sighed, but lowered her rifle. “Fine. The one who shoots him gets a double portion though.”
“I was planning to bring him in alive. . . .”
“Good. Gives me a better chance of killing him first.” She grinned at him, slipping over to the door.

LOL:) Already loving this flashback!"

2.0% "“What the hell are you doing?” Lessie demanded.
“Calling my horse,” Waxillium said, then whistled again. “We can hop down into the saddle and ride away.”
She stared at him. “You’re serious.”
“Sure I am. We’ve been practicing.”
A lone figure walked out onto the street below, the kid who had been following Waxillium. “Uh, Wax?” the kid called up. “Destroyer’s just standing there, drinking.”

Ahahaha!"
October 9, 2015 –
3.0% "“You’re as surprising as a donkey who can dance, Mister Cravat.”
“It helps to have a thing,” Waxillium noted.
“Yeah. You think I should get a thing?”
“Getting a thing has been one of the most important choices I made in coming up to the Roughs.”
Lessie nodded slowly. “I have no idea what we’re talking about, but it sounds kinda dirty.”

LOL:) Wax seems even more fun back in the day!"

3.0% "Destroyer blustered in greeting.
“Sure, now you come,” Waxillium said. “Stupid horse.”
“Actually,” Lessie said, “seems to me like staying away from you during a gunfight makes her a pretty damn smart horse.”

*cries*

Does this flashback have to end?"

11.0% "“I need you to stay behind as we go into those slums,” Wayne said, determined to impress solemnity into his voice. “It’s not that I don’t want your help. I do. It’s just going to be too dangerous for you. You need to stay where I know you’re safe. No arguments. I’m sorry.”
“Wayne,” Wax said, walking past. “Stop talking to your hat and get over here.”

LOL, Wayne at his crazy best."
October 11, 2015 –
22.0% "“Up all night, were you?” Wayne asked with a yawn. “Rusts, man, you make it hard to loaf about properly.”
“I don’t see what my insomnia has to do with your laziness, Wayne.”
“Makes me look bad, ’sall,” Wayne said, looking over Wax’s shoulder. “Proper loafing requires company. One man lying about is being idle; two men lying about is a lunch break.”

Ahahaha:) Wax and Wayne are hilarious!"
October 12, 2015 –
31.0% "“Master,” Darriance said, folding Wayne’s coat. “New equipment has arrived for you from Miss Ranette. She asked if you’d be willing to test it.”
“Aw, Ruin!” Wayne said. “I missed her? What did she leave for me?”
“She … said I was to slap you,” Darriance admitted.
“Aw. She does care. See that, Wax, she cares!”

LOL. Love is in the air!"

“I don’t hate you,” Wayne said. “I find you repulsive. That there is an important distinction, it is.”

Where is inventor girl when you need her? Wayne is overdue another slap in the face. This time one that he well deserves!"

54.0% "“Hello, Blue. How watery’s the beer today?”
“Don’t make trouble at the pub tonight, Wayne,” the man intoned in response. “My temper is really short.”
“Temper?” Wayne said, passing him. “That’s a funny name for it, mate, but if the ladies like you givin’ silly names to your body parts, I ain’t gonna say nothin’.”

At least I'm warming a bit to Wayne again after the whole Steris incident."
October 14, 2015 –

October 14, 2015 –
69.0% "“Wayne…” Wax said. “You know she doesn’t actually like you.”
“You always say that, but you’re just not seein’ the truth, Wax.”
“She tries to kill you.”

LOL:) Loving this pairing."
October 17, 2015 –

“Gentleman Jak,” I said with humility. “Surely you have heard of me.”
“So you ain’t that Waxillium Ladrian fellow?”
“By the Survivor, no!” My anger rose without warning. Many a man had met the righteous end of my knuckles for such a comment."

LOL, I knew it!"

“Fine.”
“Not annoyed at me?” she said. “Not angry that I hold the position you should? Not jealous at all?”
He glared at her, then cocked his head. Then he hissed out softly. “Damn it, you’re right. I usually hate you, but all I feel is a mild dislike. Someone’s playing with my emotions.” He hesitated. “No offense.”

LOL."
October 17, 2015 –
94.0% "“You should be grateful!” MeLaan shouted at the crowd. “I’ve come to talk to you myself!”
Wrong words, Marasi thought. Her annoyance was leading her to deviate from the script.
“I’m listening!” MeLaan yelled over the crowd. “But you have to listen back, you miscreants!”

Ahahaha:) I totally love MeLaan even when she is making a total mess of things!"

Markus This ended with a few shock twists that have left me dying to read the third instalment of the Wax and Wayne adventures.

Bands of Mourning is not that far away, right? I think you just convinced me to wait with this one after all..

It is due for release on the 26th of January 2016. Not a lengthy wait, but I just had to read this Mistborn book as soon as it got released:)

Thanks. That was the plan for me too originally, but I have so much else I want to read :)

Robin (Bridge Four) If I have a tiny criticism it is that the promising romance of the first series fell a little flat in this one. So much so that I even pondered jumping ship!

Yep this....this is my criticism as well AND are they still looking for the missing women from book one. I feel like that was brushed by rather quickly if they were and I missed it.

You are the second person in as many days to mention to me that they were disappointed that more was not done with the missing women story arc in SoS! They were briefly mentioned:P I think we will return to this story arc in the next book. With all the delays I'm expecting Sanderson to have something major up his sleeve.

Robin (Bridge Four) yep me too...I just missed any mention of them at all....except maybe at the beginning they were hoping that guy would give them a clue.

They were briefly mentioned around halfway through when (view spoiler)

Robin (Bridge Four) ah i just remember the convo about his sister.

Hamzah Shafiq Well it is true that Bands of Mourning is coming out early next year, but it won't be a conclusion to this particular saga. Sanderson recently clarified that Alloy of Law was a true standalone, and Shadows of Self was the first part of a true trilogy, which will conclude with The Lost Metal. (and he isn't planning on writing it until he finishes Stormlight #3)

Hamzah Shafiq Not that I'm complaining about the next thing being Stormlight 3 (seriously, that series is above and beyond everything else) but it's nice to have continuity in reading experience.

Much as I'd like Sanderson to wrap up writing this latest Mistborn trilogy I'll not complain if he pauses before writing The Lost Metal if that means we get Stormlight 3. I love all of Sanderson's books, but Stormlight is the best of the best!

Robin (Bridge Four) *cheers for Stormlight*

Hamzah Shafiq *yay Stormlight!*

Nafeeza Join me in jumping that ship! I totally <3 Wax and Steris now. Great review Gavin! :)
