🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

Why the h did they change the book when it was made into the series?!?

I just reread this book. We never get the feeling that Colin is a man hooooar like the show makes him out to be.

In the book, he’s a well-traveled man and writes his travels in descriptive scenes in his journal.

Yet, in the series , we get an aspect of his that RUINS the image I had of him…

We see him in not one, but TWO threesome scenes with other women 😐 (the aftermath, but still. Why the f do we see this?!?!?)

Is this supposed to romantic? 🤬
Am I supposed to swoon over seeing him with other women before he gets with the pining, virginal Penelope?!?!?!

And, somehow, we’re supposed to believe she’ll be good enough for him when he has a threesome with two women, dreams of heavily making out with Penelope, and then goes to have another threesome again with others.

He’s supposed to go from sleeping with beautiful, thin women (yes. They get paid, but that’s beside the point) in threesomes to Penelope who’s the opposite of those women? 😐

Give me a f’ing break 🤬🙄.

I’m soooo over it!!

I was also upset at the change in season 2 with Anthony and Kate, and now this?!?!?

What’s the point of making a series based on the books when it’s not gonna follow it 🤷🏻‍♀️

Thanks Julia Quinn AND Shondaland for ruining a series I loved since I read it the traditional, paperback way back in early 2000s 😐

Here’s my original 2021 review for the
book

Kristina The screenwriters and producers redoing the series are focusing on sex way more than romance and probably have no clue what romance readers want. They just want a regency soap opera ala grey’s anatomy.

I’m beyond disappointed…

Like… I wanted to angry cry

Fine. Focus on the sex, BETWEEN THE MAIN CHARACTERS!!!!

Why the f would I wanna see the H with other womEn (as in, plural)

Makes no fucking sense to me 🤬🤬🤬

Miki’s⚠️Safety Reviews⚠️ Exactly!!! Fuck this Netflix version of the series where the chubby virginal pinning h gets the manwhore H who has 2 threesomes in the Netfix version!!!! All the while they are friends and he doesn’t see her… prob cause he is distracted by his itching dick. Why ruin a good romance!? I’m done with the series I should have been done after seasons 2 disaster.

message 4: by Kristina (new) - added it

Kristina I can’t watch any of it. It’s not histrom, it’s sensationalistic money grabbing. I’m sure everyone is watching for the threesomes and the edgy sex.

Miki’s⚠️Safety Reviews⚠️ @Kristina SO TRUE!!!!! I hate it!

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I’m so angry it was changed

This isn’t the Colin I came to love from the books

This ain’t a swoony, goofy, sensual Colin

This is a manhooar who’s d is dirty AF and I don’t want anything to do with it 😭

Sonia Kristina wrote: "I can’t watch any of it. It’s not histrom, it’s sensationalistic money grabbing. I’m sure everyone is watching for the threesomes and the edgy sex."

If I wanted threesome and edgy sex, I’d be going to the Hub… 🙄

I don’t need to see that in the romance between an MF couple, ESPECIALLY when we have a pining virgin who’s considered a spinster because she’s ancient at the age of 28

Yes! I was talking to Miki about it and I was about to start crying!

I fell in love with these characters nearly two decades ago…
And then they go and mess them up? 😐
I’m so upset, angry, pissed, the works

message 12: by Sarah Mac (new)

Sarah Mac Undoubtedly the production team felt that a sweet, romantic story wasn’t “edgy” enough for modern viewership, so they went all-in on the overdone sex & reality tv’esque bullshit drama. But if that’s what they want how about, y’know, CREATING YOUR OWN SHOW instead of butchering a previously beloved romance series that isn’t meant to fit the mold you’re pushing it into? Oh, wait—that would involve actually paying tv writers to think for themselves, & we can’t have that.

message 13: by Paige (new)

Paige I was so mad when I watched season 3 today to see him having multiple threesomes. It sucks that the books changed up because most of the time the books are better than the show/movie.

Maria I haven’t watched season 3 yet, but after season 2 I’m very wary of this show. I absolutely hated what they did with the second season. I loved Anthony’s book and they ruined it in total by making it a love triangle in the show. I think the series is enjoyable if you haven’t read the books and go in blank. But otherwise the series is ruining all her romance novels.

THISSSSSS ^^^ this is exactly what needed to get done

Nearly two decades after I read the paperbacks of this series…

Really Julia Quinn? I feel like I don’t even know who these characters are!

Leave the original 2006 characters out of this charade 😐

Me too!!!
It wasn’t a love triangle for that long in the book!
It wasn’t even really a triangle!

And they ruined the way that Anthony and Kate are kind of being forced to marry (when the bee/sucking her chest scene happens)

Anthony and Kate’s sister never even made it to the altar, unlike the Netflix series 😑

I was so angry after finishing the second season, so I totally get your feelings about the new season. It actually sounds worse with all the threesomes he’s having 🤮 I already had a feeling this wasn’t going to be safe with him waking up in bed and putting on a shirt in the trailer, but thought nah he couldn’t be as bad as Anthony. Well this proves me wrong 🤬 As far as I know Saint Anthony only kept it with one woman at the time 😂

The difference between Anthony and Colin is that Anthony had just met Kate (remember, in season one he was with another woman, but then she ends up leaving him)
But here, Penelope has been pining over Colin, While he’s sleeping around having threesomes

That bothers me as well. He has known Penelope all his live and while she’s virginally pining for him he’s playing the manhoar apparently. I loathe it! Why couldn’t they have sticked to the book? I’m already dreading Benedict’s season, because in the previous ones he wasn’t averse to attending a smex party or two. 🙄

Ugh… 😐. I loved the book! I loved books 1-3, 5 stars each back in 2021…
But if the current series were books, then it would never be 5 stars

The only one that isn’t a virgin is Francesca, and that’s because she s a widow 😐

Meanwhile, her H (michael) visits a brothel when Francesca rejects him (in the book) after they’ve kissed. He doesn’t end up doing anything, but still 🙄. Imagine if/when they make it to the series?!?!?🤬

*****Spoiler*****

The show is supposed to be for women too. I don't want to see the H with other women in his season. We get that he was gone for a while and probably banged a bunch of women. We don't need scenes of him in bed with two women. I haven't watched season 3 part 1 yet, but I was kind of surprised when someone posted about Colin having a threesome! Well, that's nice to know he has not one, but two threesomes. :( I hate when H bangs ow to try to forget the h. I can deal with him whoring around in that year he was away bc he didn't think he had romantic feelings for Pen. Colin was so sweet on the show too and now they do a threesome :(

I hated the love triangle too in season 2. I wanted to see both sisters find love. I didn't like Anthony/Kate messing around behind Edwina's back. I thought their first time scene was poorly shot too. I didn't even know if Anthony/Kate went all the way or not and was confused. It just skipped to the next day. It didn't even show their wedding. I haven't read book 2 yet, but like the sound of the book storyline better.

I hated the sex party/orgy stuff in season 1. Is this Game of Thrones? Benedict's future wife will probably get dresses in the future from his former mistress that owns the dress shop :( I wouldn't be as surprised to see show Benedict have a threesome since we saw him at that sex party, but I am surprised to hear about show Colin. It would be nice if Pen/Colin were both virgins.

I do like that they condensed the Pen/Colin timeline in the show so that she isn't pining away for him for as long. I know that in the books they don't get together until she is 28 and she has loved him since 16. I think Pen is what 19/20 in the show this season?

I really liked season 1 aside from all the Anthony sex with Sienna and Benedict's orgy parties. I really liked Daphne/Simon together.

****Spoiler****

I like the sound of the book 2 better. I hated the love triangle and that they dragged it out all the way to the altar. I was really hoping that they wouldn't go the triangle route. Even after that , they were still trying to convince Edwina to marry Anthony who was cheating on her behind her back with her sister and in love with her sister. We didn't even get to see Kate/Anthony wedding. Kate/Anthony were in bed together at the end(I found it odd they showed some of that sex scene, but did a skip to next morning on their first time together). I went what no wedding? I thought there was another episode, but it was all done. I did think the actor and actress playing Kate/Anthony had great chemistry. I just wish the season wasn't getting ruined for me by the what I felt was an unnecessary love triangle.

I found out spoilers from Eloise's book.(view spoiler)

Yes. Book 2 is better than the show 🤷🏻‍♀️
It doesn’t make Anthony seem so wishy washy

Annnnnd… they’re kind of forced to be together, like what happens in book 1
Because Anthony sucks on Kate’s chest when he sees a bee there
So, of course, they get walked in on and there goes that 😅

At least, I know now that I don't have to witness any orgy scenes in Benedicts book. It's nice to know that the author doesn't show the men with ow in the books. Yeah, I'm sure that Benedict probably wasn't celibate those two years. Did anything happen with Benedict and his love interest before the 2 years where they didn't see each other? I guess they just use Benedict in the show to meet some of their sex quota.

I guess they didn't want to do another forced marriage situation like in season 1. I still hate the triangle and they could have still done the book storyline. think Jonathon Bailey and Simon Ashley had great chemistry though. I just wish we could have seen more of them as a couple in season 2 instead of that triangle. I'm sure I'll be even more annoyed by that triangle change when I read their book :(

Chris ˚₊· ͟͟͞͞➳❥ I couldn’t agree more! They ruined this series for me, especially the first two books!😒

message 34: by Olga (new)

Olga This fixation recent romance authors have and not to mention that hellhole garbage that Netflix is are trashing everything that is pure and beautiful. Threesomes, polygamy, manwhores/hores, one night stands/ hookups, sleeping with everything that has a hole and a stick, pregnant women finding men other than their partners…. Etc this absolutely disgusts me. What’s the goal of all this?! Is this really liberalism? Is this really free will? Is this really feminism? Is this really the sorry excuse of independent women? Is this what you want to teach the younger generation? No boundaries, vulgarity, no pride, no self respect, no loyalty, no sexual awareness, disregard for the sanctity of sexual relationships. This is no better than animals in heat. You feel horny, go find yourself a stranger and bang his brain out! There’s no value for intimacy anymore. But the worst part is, the brainless women who applaud excitedly and call themselves independent women of free will. This is beyond ridiculous!!

Debbie DiFiore You nailed it. I wish I'd never watched it! I loved those books so much. But the series has totally left me disappointed.

My biggest gripe is with the changing of the storylines when it was made into a series (which started with season 2)

For me, it cheapens the romance and tension between Colin and Penelope when we see Colin engaging in threesomes with women who work in a brothel

These are beautiful women who look nothing like Penelope
Yet I’m supposed to believe Colin will be satisfied with just Penelope?

It gives me the biggest ick since Colin is not painted to be this way AT ALL in the books

These are books I fell in love with decades ago
So, I’m just feeling bereft and disappointed at the deviation from said books

I was talking to a friend who also read the books and she said the same thing

Don’t get me wrong. While he was traveling, I wasn’t expecting him to remain a virgin
Or celibate 🤷🏻‍♀️

But to have this thrown in our face after he’s back in town and Penelope is still actively pining for him is INCREDIBLY ICKY 🥴 🤢

Yes it's one thing if Colin was sleeping around while on his travels bc a lot of men did that. Also, Colin wasn't pining away for Penelope at that time. He didn't know that Pen had feelings for him. I can handle it better if the hero didn't have feelings or didn't realize his feelings for the h yet while sleeping around. It's another thing to have him have multiple threesomes after he comes back to town and starts to dream about Pen. I didn't expect show Colin to have threesome scenes either bc he wasn't portrayed like that before. You can have him come back with more confident, but not show him with ow.

I'm reading book 1 now and Colin was away for Idk 18 months(I forget). I guess he spent the money Anthony gave him and was with women on his travels. Show Colin was portrayed as more innocent in the beginning of the series, so it's even more surprising to find out about that in the show. At least, it's a relief to hear that Julia doesn't show the men sleeping around in the books. I do like the timeline being condensed on the show, so that Pen isn't pining away for Colin for as many years as in the books.
