really liked it
Read 2 times. Last read February 1, 2024 to February 3, 2024.

This is one that takes some thinking about. Disjointed love stories in different times and places, it takes a while to figure out the connections, if you ever do. I feel like it needs to be read another time or two to really understand.

Beautiful writing.

Jenna ❤ ❀ ❤ Sounds too complicated for me but at least the beautiful writing would be a plus.

Diane Barnes I think it was too cerebral for me, and I didn't feel like concentrating any harder.

Mark Porton Despite its complexity it sounds like the writing pulled this one through for you Diane, 4 stars aint bad!!! Great stuff :))

switterbug (Betsey) I so enjoyed her writing in Fugitive Pieces. I did buy this one, and I can relate to the comment about needing to be read more than once. Her writing is poetic and not always fully accessible. That's when I just let the phrases just ride on its cerebral current. I hope I enjoy this one.

Sara I had not thought about Fugitive Pieces for a long while but it came rushing back to me as soon as I read your review. I'd be willing to try this one, even if difficult, because Anne Michaels is such a poetic writer.

Diane Barnes It was a library book, and I think I should have read it at a much slower pace to absorb it more fully.

message 7: by Antoinette (new)

Antoinette My mind probably could not handle this one right now after my recent disastrous read. But it does sound like the writing was worthwhile.

Diane Barnes The writing was beautiful. My timing was off a bit for full perception.

Pedro Noted!!

Robin Lovely to see you read this too, Diane. I agree: it's a beautiful book to be read with contemplation, and it demands that you really sink into it and slow down (and as you said, maybe read it a few times).

Diane Barnes I read this too quickly so I could get it back to the library. I'll read it again at some point, and expect to get more out of it.
