I really don’t know why anyone does what they’re doing, especially the main character who inexplicably involves herself into an investigation into a student’s suicide. (I know the reason the book gives us, so don’t @ me. It just isn’t convincing.) And she used to be a detective, but no longer is? I can see why, because she’s not very good at it. Tempted to create a “weirdly incompetent” shelf for this.

The audiobook wasn't listed as a part of a series on Libby and the synopsis doesn't really call that out, so I wasn't aware it was the second book until I looked more closely on GoodReads. Obviously missed a lot of back story, though I would say that series usually work best if readers can pick up sequels and still have a complete sense of who the characters are. But your high rating/regard is noted.
