I read Of Mice and Men thirty years ago, Confessions and Sinai Tapestry – a few years ago. I’ve just edited my reviews trying to make them a little bit more readable.

Vit, I read The Grapes of Wrath when I was young (loved it). Later, already an adult, I tried East of Eden and I thought John's narrative voice sounded somewhat disturbed by the context of Cold War (he sounded too american/land of the free to me). Needless to say, I didn't finish that book. However, your review spiked my interest for this work. Do you think this narrative is more similar to The Grapes of Wrath or East of Eden?
So wonderful, Vit! This is beautiful.
Steinbeck is one of my favorite writers. I’ve taught The Pearl and Of Mice & Men. Those two stories about the American dream gone wrong are simply enduring. I teach students who come from challenging backgrounds and getting them to read is a feat. Steinbeck alleviates this. It’s a testament to his themes that students relate. I’ve read East of Eden and think that’s his magnum opus. I am interested to see the new film adaptation with Jennifer Lawrence as Cathy Ames will translate. I also loved The Grapes of Wrath as a high school student.
