Finished and I loved it!
There was a specific World War 2 vibe to this story, which I liked. The world building wasn't magnificent, but I could imagine well enough where and when Iris and Roman were.
I very much loved the instant camaraderie between Iris, Attie, and Marisol. Extra points for Attie and Iris not becoming competitive on sight. We love women supporting women.
The real story is Iris and Roman, which was such a sweet story of healing for both them, Roman more than Iris I think. I love Roman's dedication to Iris, his willingness to follow her into the trenches, literally. The way he didn't want to let go of her hand. How unsure he was of himself despite him having all the advantages. I adore them and can't wait for the second half of this story
