It took me a while to really warm up to him the first time I read this series, but now I love his POV so much. He isn't enamored the way Clary is or knowledgeable about the Shadowhunter world like Jace. So we get a clearer picture and learn as he does. I also love his humor, dry and self-deprecating. And the way he describes his awkwardness, especially in the midst of a group he just doesn't belong in as well as with all the romance. He's just out of his depth. The thing I like about this book is how it really delved into Lilith and her story, though it could have gone deeper if she were actually introduced sooner. There is so much about those earlier Biblical stories that could be explored and I like that Clare chose this one. Also, it is written in such a way that you could even have a bit of sympathy for Lilith, especially after child loss and her desperation to have her own children, to the point of performing these rituals. Clare really has a way of developing her characters so that if told from the POV, it would make sense, even if you disagree. ...more

It was pretty clear that he could do nearly anything he wanted, so his having the Archbishop under his control made sense. Even without knowing about the brand, I figured something was up.
The romance with Otto and Fritzi was sweet and very YA (don't ask me about spice!). I do think they could have gotten to know each other better, but I love their mutual respect for one another.

Like it was all part of one big 'Happily Ever After,' mostly I believe due to to Evangeline's never-ending hope in true love and broken curses.
SPOILERS AHEAD
It took so long before we got to see the bolder loving moments between Jacks and Evangeline. Yes, by the end of Ballad of Never After, he gave up what he thought was his chance at true love, but still, she didn't know. There wasn't much in the way of declaration TO EACH OTHER. It was mostly what they said and how they behaved (he actually acted 'insane' when she died) to and with other people.
However, by the end, I feel like this wrapped up so nicely as any fairy tale should. The old switcharoo with the curses. Multiple villains trying to keep them apart. Heroics and fighting and true love conquering all of it. *Swoon* Might just immediate reread the series that I just started a week ago.
My only concern is that he is still immortal and she isn't. How will that work out. ...more

I absolutely adore Violet and found her so real. I loved that she was created with such a realistic weakness and more importantly, that she adapted to it rather than show unrealistic expectations of just making it disappear Normally I am not a romantic but I love Violet and Xaden and how he showed he cared about her in nontraditional ways like making her saddle. They're precious and I need more. And that ending was so intense and I need NEED to know what happens next with the fallout over the deceptions and hidden information....more

There was a specific World War 2 vibe to this story, which I liked. The world building wasn't magnificent, but I could imagine well enough where and when Iris and Roman were. I very much loved the instant camaraderie between Iris, Attie, and Marisol. Extra points for Attie and Iris not becoming competitive on sight. We love women supporting women. The real story is Iris and Roman, which was such a sweet story of healing for both them, Roman more than Iris I think. I love Roman's dedication to Iris, his willingness to follow her into the trenches, literally. The way he didn't want to let go of her hand. How unsure he was of himself despite him having all the advantages. I adore them and can't wait for the second half of this story...more

However, my issue with this book and why I knocked it down a couple stars was that it seemed he was still so hung up on Katerina even at the end. Like he settled for Reia because she accepted him but if he had gotten what he really wanted, it would have been him and Katerina from the beginning. He did so much more for her than Reia. I can't imagine being Reia and actually living in the house he built for Katerina even when she was cruel to him....more

A little cheesy but this was meant to be a hea love story. The plot moved along super quick, which I normally love but this time it seemed like we just missed out on a lot. I loved that Zoey kept her pride intact when she got back with Grizz and didn't let him intimidate her. Also I like how she didn't just let him straight into their sons life. He had to prove he wanted to be there and stay. He made some mistakes but most of those were due to other obligations and weren't his fault. I would keep Reck away, regardless of whether that's his brother or not. He caused nothing but trouble the whole book. ...more
I don't know why I was more emotional reading this time. Everything made me 'awww'. Harry making Ron feel better about not having much money. Hermione I don't know why I was more emotional reading this time. Everything made me 'awww'. Harry making Ron feel better about not having much money. Hermione smiling at Ron and Harry after the troll incident and them becoming friends. Ron and Harry going after Hermione when she was in trouble because they knew they'd hurt her feelings. Even Draco's mom sending him sweets. And Hagrid making the photo album for Harry because he had no photos of his parents. Molly making Harry a sweater just like she does for her own son because he could have been friends with anyone and he chose her son and he has no real family. Just everything had me in my feels. I loved entering this world again and appreciate so many things that Rowling did that I didn't take the time to appreciate before. Like the owl-mail system. The secret brick to get into Diagon Alley. The books in the library that scream. Little details like that, that the story could have gone without but they just add so much. Not really new opinions on the story itself, because it's always gonna be 5/5 stars, but I just noticed so many other little things this time. ...more

Through this read I tried to keep a romantic perspective in mind. When I first read this book I was enamored with the Nessian story, aside from Nesta's growth. Slowly I lost that with each re-read. Since I'm slowly going back to my romance roots, I'm trying to be less cynical. The issues are still there. But I'm back to rooting for them. As always I adore my Valkyries. I knew how the story went. I was prepared for Achilles' death. That was the whole point.
I was not prepared for the epic love story. The purity of what Achilles and Patroclus shared. The selflessness. The love that transcended everything else. The way Achilles defended Patroclus to kings and goddesses. The way Patroclus finally felt seen and loved and he mourned Achilles long before he died.

I adore Bryce, Hunt, and Lele. Their relationships were so sweet. The growing romance between Bryce and Hunt was so beautifully done and I loved how we are shown how they healed one another. There were so many hints about Lehabah but I was still devastated. So many twists and turns, thanks to Danika. I still don't know why she gets the hate that she does. She always tried to do the right thing. I'm torn between wishing there was more fleshing out of the Pack of Devils and grateful there isn't. My heart broke for Conner as it is. I'm so glad Bryce got closure for them. Thoroughly enjoyable and so emotional. I laughed and cried, sometimes on the same page. I wish I could read it again for the first time....more

I'm not sure when this story (both of this book as well as the series as a whole) began to make me feel nostalgic- for what I'm still not sure. Is it the growing tension of the plot? The way the characters are only now finding one another, yet already have such intense bonds (hello, Aedion and Aelin!)? The way I want desperately to go to Terrasen despite only seeing it in the final couple of pages? I'm not sure. Still, this book made me feel things. At this point I am most invested in Chaol and Elide. I desperately want them to get happy endings and healing. Perhaps because they, as humans with no powers, are kind of the underdogs of the story. Regardless, I need them to be happy. Manon was thoroughly entertaining, as was Lysandra. I'm eager to learn more about them. I also enjoyed Aedion and Dorian. I'm very curious about Lorcan and what he's doing. Strangely, it's still Aelin and Rowan that I can't bring myself to care about, though I imagine that will change. Can't wait to continue the series. ...more
