I picked up an advanced reader copy from work (Barnes & Noble). Read the first hundred pages that first day after work. Very enjoyable read. Thanks for your hard work. I will post a short review once I have finished tearing through this book.
I've just read your "Female Warriors in Fantasy" article and found it perfect, which made me curious about this novel...
It sounds just like my cup of tea, so I can't wait to get my hands on it. :)

Irene -- Glad to hear it! I hope you enjoy the book. (34 days to wait ... not that I'm counting or anything...)
Hi Django, I have two questions:
How many books are planned in the series ?
The book end in a cliffhanger, or it has a satisfying ending ?

There are five books planned in total. I am editing book #2 now -- the goal is 1 / year.
I like to think the book has a satisfying ending? There's definitely a hook for the next book, but I tried to wrap it up in a way that would work for people.

Just picked this up from Amazon, and it is the next on my ever expanding "to read" list. In fact, it displaced a few other must reads rather handily. Looking to start it tonight or tomorrow. From what I have read of the blurbs and reviews....seems like my kind of story for sure. Can't wait to visit the world and characters you have created!
just finished the book, and im lookng forward to the next one. Hope it doesnt take too long to come out. btw the TTN reminded me of Glen Cook's The black Company series and its a compliment

Thanks so much! I love the Black Company series, so that's great to hear. Next one is scheduled for July 2014 -- hoping to get them out at one year intervals.

It reminds me of both the Black Company series and the Malazan Book of the Fallen series. I hope to see more of the 7th company soldiers especially the corporals. It will interesting to see how the main characters cope with what they experienced in the end of the first book.

There's no shame about author reviewing their own work. At least they care about their readers, being active here.

And what value is your insightful review supposed to provide to potential readers? It leaves a bad taste in mouth, creates a negative association with your name and makes it less likely that I will be willing to read your work.
Mostly, as you can see from the above comments, it provides a thread where people can ask me questions or leave notes.
I don't mind at all! It's always flattering when someone cares enough about a book to write a review. Boredom is the worst response!
I don't think her orientation is a spoiler, and I'm really glad you liked her as a character. Writing characters that different from myself is always a bit scary, so I'm very happy to hear that it worked for you!

so far i've read the first the books of the shadow campaigns and i absolutely love them. thank you so much
I haven't loved a book this much since I first read Hornblower. The military detail and weary characterisation of a soldier's life were both fantastic. I am wary of modern fantasy because of the tendency to kill off main characters *for no reason*, naming no Martins, but this book did nothing without purpose. These characters have become instant, memorable favourites.
I'm reading my son The Forbidden Library rn and he's loving it. I'm looking forward to reading this fantasy series
