This book was a mistake. Don't read this book. I would rate this negative 100 stars if I could. This was one of the worst reads I had this year. I didn't even want to acknowledge the existence of this book with a review, but after a lot of thought, I decided it was only right to warn people about it. I used to not add books that had unpalatable content to my shelves, but I always felt uncomfortable thinking that so many people might read those books because they had no one to warn them. I don't want to have books with that kind of content on my read shelf. But at the same time I also feel that if I know that something is wrong, then it's my responsibility to warn people against it and stand up for what's right. I feel like that's what God would want me to do, too. Especially because this book's intended audience is teens and young adults, I felt it necessary to take a stand.

The fact that some people actually gave this book a good review is beyond me. *gags* I can't find one good thing about it. Even if you don't agree with my views, the fact remains that the writing and story-telling skills are absolutely horrible.

I can't believe anyone would expose such loathsome, vile, scandalous content to their readers. It's shameful. No person in their right mind should want to read this, and no kid should ever even read this stuff. This story should never have seen the light of day.

Amazon recommended this book to me (I have no idea why) and since it was free, I decided to just read a chapter or two to see how I'd like it. A few pages in, and I was already ready to put it down, but I finished chapter 1 so I could have better scope to write a review. This book was immoral, excessively and disgustingly sexual, sickening, whatever you'd like to call it. It made me feel terrible reading, and I could not go on after chapter 1. The characters are all sensual and horrible and only care about people's outward appearances and seem to have nothing at all in their hearts or brains. The MC was terrible and odious and inordinately immature. I'm the same age as her, so you can't say I just don't get it. I can't believe how disgustingly immature the characters are.

From the very start of the book, you get LGBTQ elements, underage sex (and they do it secretly), and every bit of lustful pursuit.

This type of book should never be published. It teaches kids all the wrong things. What was the author thinking to put such content in a YA book? The world is already much too full of immorality and the mindset of sensuality without someone publishing a book like this. There is no lesson or moral in this story. Everything is just about the teens' lust for sex. It made me sick.

Too late. I've already cried enough for the both of us and an emotional Gollum who lost his ring.

I know, I so need better books to read. But I always go for what's free on Amazon and read it on the Kindle app. And since Amazon recommended this to me—this was before I learned my lesson about being more wary of their recommendations— I thought I'd give it a try. 🤦🤦 Boy, was that a mistake.

Oh wow. That's a big bucketload of crying, then!

Lily Have you thought about the free books authors sometimes offer for you signing up for their newsletter? I can't think of any off the top of ny head, but I know there's a lottttt of authors who do that.

Katherine S Wow, that's terrible.
Amazon has a habit of trying to pawn off garbage like this on me too.

Lily I usually get the best recommendations from Bookstagram, Goodreads, and friends :)

Oh yes, I think I did that with a couple of authors this past year.

Yh, I never did trust Amazon, and I always try to research the books they recommend to me. But they always do try to make you go for these types of books.

Haha, so true! But you're forgetting that I only started Goodreads last year, and I didn't really have all my bookish friends to help me when I was searching for a book that time. :)

Ah, true 😢 I just realized that might have come off really weird, but I guess I meant it like a suggestion that those three places might be some of the best ones to get recs.

Winter Yeah, I don't trust amazon recs unless it's an author I already know. Unfortunately, it's hard to sort the good free books from the bad ones :(

Exactly! Because free is free. If a good book is free, than I'd totally want to read it! It's just so tedious researching each one to figure out the bad ones.

I didn't see that as weird. I agree! Especially if a person has the same tastes as me, I can always trust their recs.

message 14: by Lily (new)

Lily Yeah! I feel like I can trust yours for sure! And literally, I could swear there's a specific niche in GR and on Instagram too where everyone seems to like the same sort of books! It's pretty amazing!

Ella あいみ M. For sure! I'm always so surprised to find so many people who liked the same books as me. Maybe I'm not that unique after all. Waaaaah *fake crying*
I'm not on Instagram, though, but maybe one day I'll try it and find more people with the same tastes.

And thanks, I know I can trust yours, too! 😄

message 16: by Lily (new)

Lily XD But it is pretty nice to have that in common though, right? I love the Christian fantasy nook and then there's kind of a Christian/clean fantasy one as well!

message 17: by Winter (last edited Jan 04, 2022 07:02PM) (new)

Winter Yes! When I just started getting back into books a few years ago I had no idea there were actually Christian Fantasy authors out there let alone peeps with similar tastes in books. <3

message 18: by Lily (new)

Lily Oh, me too!!!!! I was SO unbelievably happy when I found out clean romance was a thing! I despised romance before I knew, and with some good reason! And Christian fantasy?!?!?! Ahhhhhhh *has dreamy eyes*

Ella あいみ M. Yes!! CLEAN FANTASY IS DA BEST!

I enjoy reading well-written clean romance, too! I really like it when the characters are super kind. They have too many bad-boy romances or stories with "strong girls that kick butt." It's not that I don't like romances with storng female characters or characters that are bad and turn good later. But I feel like you just don't see as many stories recently where a person's strength is their kindness, if that makes sense. It's hard to explain.

message 20: by Winter (new)

Winter Totally understand and agree!! :D
