This sucked and it was wayyy too long for something this bad. I never thought I could hate a book this much but this was just BAD. This is supposedly enemies to lovers, but it was more of 'obtuse woman realising that the only hot guy she knows is coincidentally in love with her'.

I absolutely hated being stuck in Catalina's thoughts for almost 500 pages. I used to think I overthink things too much but she's on a whole other level. I swear, if Aaron said something like "I like peanut butter" I'd have to read a whole chapter on her analysis of the sentence. Girl should've been an English teacher. Oh and also hOW CAN ANYONE BE SO OBLIVIOUS?

Aaron: *offers to be Catalina's fake boyfriend so that her fragile ego isn't hurt*
Catalina: But why is Aaron doing this? There is no logical explanation for why he would want to fly across half the world with me and pretend to be my boyfriend

And blue-eyed man with the hard chest who dwarfed the furniture Aaron. He had the personality of stale bread, like his only personality trait was being in love with Catalina (why he was in love with her is beyond me). Also, I didn't like having the phrase 'blue-eyed man' being shoved down my throat every two pages. I get it. Blue eyes, ocean blue eyes, deep blue eyes, THEY ALL MEAN THE SAME THING miss off-brand thesaurus. And every time he was standing next to like literally anything at all Catalina started with "omg he's making the room look so tiny" "wOw he's too big for that sofa 🥵”. Don’t even get me started on the hard planes of Aaron’s chest and definitely do not ask me to describe how muscular his legs were because I think a better source for this information would be every single page of this book.

Even at the end of the book, when Catalina and Aaron FINALLY get together after overcoming a bunch of non-existent obstacles, they break up at the speed of light. Just when I thought this torture was finally getting over, they break up and I had to read Catalina’s super boring internal monologue which was absolutely delightful!!!
And then Catalina decides she is in love with Aaron after not hating him for two weeks, so she travels all the way to Seattle because apparently lone wolf alpha male Aaron has no support system. They then proceed to make out in a waiting room (so romantic 😍) and suddenly the hospital surveillance person has the most coveted job in the universe because they get to watch a gigantic man make out with the woman sitting on his lap.

The epilogue makes sure this book ends with a bang because Aaron and Catalina make out in the elevator and I’m pretty sure elevators have surveillance cameras as well. The surveillance people and I will be going to group therapy to recover from all this trauma.

If I hadn’t been clear enough, I don’t recommend The Spanish Lust Abomination to anyone.

Buddy read with MyBookJourney (I feel like I owe you an apology for making you read this), you can read her review here

Edit: I had to rewrite half of this review because for some reason it got deleted??? But I think I managed to write something that vaguely resembles what it used to be.

diana please- this review is *chefs kiss*💀 I‘m just so happy I wasn’t the only one who felt this exact way about the book 🧍🏾

MyBookJourney This review is hilarious. I almost don't mind having to read the book because of all the fun I had while reading your review. But I agree completely- this book was trash. The "off-brand thesaurus" is so funny and on-point; the author really needs to improve her vocabulary.

Eden Isaacs this is EXACTLY how i feel about The Hating Game too! 💀💀 absolutely didn’t like it or understand the hype AT ALL 🙃
and i feel like both these books have similar aspects about the male love interest. UGH no thanks 😶

I hated The Hating Game as much as I hated this one, they definitely are similar and blue eyed, muscular Aaron really did remind me of blue eyed, 'muscly pinecone' Joshua :/
I'd seen people comparing this book to The Hating Game but read it anyway 😭

The only time i would associate this book with deception is when i think of how i was fooled into believing this would be good 🙃

i consider it a personal achievement

Shifra ♕ I love how you are concerned for the fictional security surveillance personnel that would have been exposed to their impromptu make out sessions. It shows an admixture of empathy and fictional overanalyzing (the latter of which I also do.)
Adored this review!

It was an extremely pressing concern at that moment, specifically because the book ended that way and the epilogue was astoundingly terrible.
Thank you! :)

MyBookJourney Don't mind me, I'm just here reading this review for the 237489273498th time and the 'obtuse woman realising that the only hot guy she knows is coincidentally in love with her' is still very funny to me.
