DNF @ p.100

After giving The Atlas Six another try, I realized that I can't make it beyond the 100 pages, that I can't stand any of the characters, that I won't read it (or enjoy it, for the case) and there are tons of actually good books out there waiting for me to discover them.

I'm glad I don't have Tiktok anymore (because I spend more time there than actually reading and nope) to see the hype and try to read it, lmao.

This book goes straight to my big hype, big lie shelf.

Look, I really tried. The premise was promising so I said, "why not? I haven't read many good dark academia books" and precisely that was a mistake.

The characters were unbearable, arrogant and flat. Yes, you heard/read me. They don't have personality beyond of try to impress everybody with... what? I didn't actually see what they can do. They're just a bunch of brat and stupid kids who think they can have whatever they want and not face the consequences.

I spoiled myself the book and it was... Great. I mean, I didn't know what to expect but the so called spoilers made me dislike this book more than the beginning. On my previous updates, I kinda forced myself to like it??? Callum and Parisa were assholes to me; I hated them since the very first moment. Libby was an annoying bitch and Nico was fine but even he was annoying to me.

If you liked this book, good 4 u. I couldn't even force myself to read it anymore. I can't give it another try when I know I dislike the characters and don't give a shit about them. I don't care for them. At all. This book it is supposed to be character driven, right? Well, you might say that in the first 100 pages it's impossible to know it, but you can. 100 pages of pure suffering and hell was what I was given with TAS.

I read a review of someone saying "Read Vicious for a well character driven book" and hell yes. Vicious is way better.

In any case, I won't give this book another try. No, I'm not sorry. I'm tired, haha.

it left me speechless and wanting to read the second book ASAP

Kiên Nguyễn Đức There are lgbt elements in the book? I've only gone through half of the book and the only gay I've seen is the fact Parisa's slept with women before. Nico and Gideon is very suspicious, although it remains unconfirmed.

Milana Tatarenko Are lgbt actually main couple? Or just very secondary? Cause I’ve learned that people tag lgbt on everything even with scraps of gay and the main couples still being very straight

I honestly don't know. I've read that there are lgbt characters, but haven't made it beyond the 13% of the book, so I don't really know, sorry :(

Heather-Lin Even with the promise of queer and polyamory rep, in my humble opinion, it's not work the slog. Maybe her next book book will be better written, better plotted, and for cheese's sake, better edited.

Lex 🇲🇽 I most likely will not be picking this book up, I am kind of intrigued however I cannot bring myself to want to read it >_< lmk how this time goes for you

Beside of spoiling myself the book, it was exasperating. I didn't get the first time to that part, I hope I'll make it this time, but still, it's hard bc I barely understand something and barely there's plot, lol

Melissa I really like it, but it’s been a struggle for me to get through. Like it’s just not pulling me in.

message 24: by Isabella (new)

Ana (Hiatus) It wasn't a good book. But I felt sorry for Libby. Everyone treated her horribly for no reason at all. I have also heard that she becomes corrupted in the next book. So excited for that.

Mariana ✨ Yes omg!!! The writing is terrible, nothing happens most of the book, the descriptions are barely even there (i still don't know what every character and the places look like???), the POV's are not balanced (we can very easily tell who's the authors favourite lmao), every character is terrible (they literally all bully Libby for NO REASON!)...... Such an overrated book.

Susan I used to have the philosophy that I needed to finish every book I began.
Then, I realized there are way too many books out there to read and life is short.
If after the second try it isn't your vibe, listen to your gut. You probably won't enjoy it the third time. And nothing is wrong with you; I was unenthusiastic about this read.

Teresa (Taylor's Version) I also DNF’d The Atlas Six today as well! And it was also at the 100 pages mark, what a coincidence! I 100% agree with you - the writing was not good (I literally didn’t know what the characters looked like and had to guide myself by the pictures, that weren’t even labelled), the characters were very arrogant, privileged and flat (except Nico, he wasn’t too bad (and he was obviously one of the authors favourites, the way the pov’s were written it was very clear which characters were supposed to be likeable or not)), the plot was boring and it was overall not a great experience for me. I’m really happy if people love it, but this was one of my most anticipated reads for 2022 and it did not deliver unfortunately. I think I might give it another try in the future but it was being so boring for me that I just couldn’t anymore.

Oh gods, this is such a great coincidence!! Also, so sorry that you didn't like it either. I totally agree with you, too! I was trying to guide myself with the pictures, but I never knew who was who (I didn't even look at all of them, LMAO). Yes, Nico was Olivie's favorite and he felt way too perfect for me; I guess that's part of why I didn't like him at all. Once more, I'm so so sorry and hope you find a great book that you enjoy and rate it with 5 stars! <3

message 42: by Alex (new) - rated it 1 star

Alex There is no lgbt in this book. There's a bunch of queer baiting worth Calum and Tristan and Parisa kisses the most annoying character in fiction, Libby, but it's literally just a device to get her into a straight hookup so it doesn't count. Every single character in this book was annoying as fuck, I'm totally baffled by anyone shipping any of these characters.

ale (semi hiatus) ‧ ₊˚୨ ♡ ୧ ₊˚ Alex wrote: "There is no lgbt in this book. There's a bunch of queer baiting worth Calum and Tristan and Parisa kisses the most annoying character in fiction, Libby, but it's literally just a device to get her ..."

I didn't make it that far to see the "lgbt" thing, but for the spoilers that I read, there was none, which makes me think that this book is bad marketed. I could not stand Calum, Tristand and Parisa, they were annoying as fuck, just as everyone else in here. People shipp them??? How???

message 44: by Alex (new) - rated it 1 star

Alex I DNF at the 50% mark of the audiobook. It was absolute garbage. Not to mention the author tells us this book is occurring in this amazing world of magic and then we're literally stuck in the same 3 rooms of the school for the entire book. The school that was so poorly described I couldn't picture where any of the action was taking place so my brain just made it like the most boring corporate meeting room. There was just zero attempt at world building. It was like the author had some ideas but couldn't flesh them out to make an immersive world that felt lived in. Then the characters were all so awful, I would probably kill them if I was struck in a lift for 10 minutes with any of them, let alone the hours it takes to read a book. I don't know, all it made me want to do was read an actually good dark academia book like The Secret History.

ale (semi hiatus) ‧ ₊˚୨ ♡ ୧ ₊˚ Alex wrote: "I DNF at the 50% mark of the audiobook. It was absolute garbage. Not to mention the author tells us this book is occurring in this amazing world of magic and then we're literally stuck in the same ..."

I didn't make it to the part of the attempt of worldbuilding, but for what I've read in other reviews, there's none. I actually was excited for the prologue because sounded really good, but then... It floped. Literally. Each chapter was worse than the other. I just could not bear any of the characters nor tried to. They were unsufferable the whole entire time. I haven't read TSH yet, but ppl say it's way better.

So sorry that you didn't like it either and hope you find a really good book!
