Loving this series so far.
I’m rubbish at reviewing separate books in a long series because I can’t just review parts of the story. It’s just weird to me.
So to continue from my last review, for the first book:
•I love the pace of the story.
•If possible, I’m liking the heroine more and more, I think she is very well fleshed out.
•This has the kind of plot which is anything but predictable because I genuinely have no idea what’s gonna happen next. I find with fantasy reads, I can at least take a guess the direction things are gonna go towards but here nada.
•I am the kind of person who likes spoilers (not big spoilers necessarily - but I like knowing loosely what’s gonna happen) in this case however, I am absolutely happy knowing nothing and it’s refreshing trying to guess who is doing what and why and where it’s gonna lead.
•The biggest mystery (besides what is gonna happen with Mac and how her journey will turn out) is who is Barrons really. I like that he’s not good and he’s not bad but at the same time - I don’t really know which one of those is more true than the other. I’m enjoying piecing him together like a puzzle.
Can’t wait to continue this series and see what’s next.

Glad you’re enjoying this, it’s one of my favorite series. Or well... book 1 to 5 is, I pretend what came after never happened.

@Kim, oh s**t, I don’t want this to go wrong. It’s so good this far. But I’ve been there with other series that are this long, they just take a bad turn because of the need to keep adding elements to a plot that should be wrapped up.I mean 11 books is a lot!
After the 5th book the main character changes so if you’re worried about Barrons and Mac, don’t be ♥️ Sorry, I should have been more specific 🙂 And to be fair: I only read book 6 (or tried to and that went horribly wrong) but I can’t judge the rest of them.
@Kim, that’s worse than a possible rift between Mac and Barrons. I mean, I’m a sucker for a good romance but I don’t mind the focus being on the heroine rather than the romance. Eh, I’ll just go with the flow and see what happens. I just saw that the last book came out this year and I’m like wow, first one came out in 2006! I feel better knowing that book 6 & 7 could be a bust. Whenever I go into something prepared, I find it less disappointing.
I also kind of like spoilers in books/movies/tv shows/etc. It almost makes me anxious if I have no idea what the general premise and direction of the story is going to be.
As for this series, I read the first book but didn't really like it that much 😣 I'll be honest, it was a while ago so I don't remember why I didn't like it. I think something about the love interest wiping her memory maybe? But maybe I will give it another try because I've seen lots of good reviews for it lately.

YAY!!! im so glad this series works out for you and i hope it will get more and more better each book 🤍
Great review/thoughts! Book 3 really cranks things up - can't wait for your reaction to that one! So glad you are enjoying this series!!
Waaait is this series good?!?? All the reviews I saw in the past said it was bad (or maybe one bad review tainted my perception haha? But this review makes me wanna read!

This series is SOOOO GOOD! One of my favorites! I have participated in several buddy reads for books 1-5, and every person in them has enjoyed the series. Most of the people who have written negative reviews about book 1 usually stopped reading after 1 or 2, which means they only got about a tenth of the story. (Also, I have found that negative reviews are often more entertaining, so they get more likes and get bumped up to the top as a result.)
I do know that it frustrates some people bc some feel KMM is a little too wordy, and it is a slow burn/slow reveal, so people get anxious wanting to know more sooner. Some people also found Mac (the h) annoying bc she starts off as a high maintenance Barbie type, but she grows tremendously over the course of the series. Almost all is revealed in book 5, and it's a pretty amazing HOLY WOW kind of conclusion (originally, KMM was only going to write 5 books; she continued writing after fans wanted more of the story).

@Paige, I’m the same! I need to know the stuff beforehand. I mean I don’t wanna know step by step everything that happens but mostly I wanna know if it’s fits with what I like. As for this book, there is no scene about memory wiping in the series so far. I do that too, sometimes leave a book unfinished and rarely get back to it if something wasn’t working for me. I hope you do enjoy it if you ever pick it up again!
@MG, I’m gonna start the 3rd book tomorrow. As I’m trying to pace myself with stuff in between. But I can’t wait!

This series can be frustrating bc it is a slow reveal, and sometimes KMM can get wordy and Mac (h) is initially annoying, but it is well worth it to stick with it, imo, bc the world building is incredible (though complex, which is why it takes awhile to build); the characters have significant depth; you cannot predict where things are headed (even when you think you know, you end up with your mouth wide open: "Say WHAT?!" -- but in a good way); and the build-up is well worth it. I've participated in several buddy reads of this series (Books 1-5), and everyone in them has always ended up really liking or loving this series.

@Jam, everything @MG said, echoes my thoughts! I didn’t expect to like this so much. It was sitting on my kindle for a long time and I thought ok, let me try it and it started slow but the writing worked. And the more I read the more I liked the heroine which is what was weird for me cause I don’t enjoy the Elle (from legally blonde types) - but she turns out to be very relatable. And the romance - well it develops slowly, she’s not attracted to the H at first. Even by the end of book 2 when they shared a HOT make out session she still says he’s not her type. And I love the fact that she’s not impressed lol. (And we get so many scenes where H is “casually” jealous) I love their dynamic. He’s not her knight. She’s very much saving herself a lot of the times. (Not always - otherwise what use would he be 😅)

Looking forward to your thoughts!
SYK, books 3 & 4 end with pretty big bangs which is going to make you want to grab up the next book pretty quickly ;)

I'm so glad your enjoying this series so far. I loved it so much when I read the first 5 books many years ago. Unfortunately I lost interest and never continued the series.
I had to push through book 1 and each book got better and better....i remember taking a day off the day book 5 came out to read it....and the long wait for it to come out.
@Nicole, I’m loving it too! It might just become one of my all time favourites too. I will see if I venture past book 5. I read it’s about Dani, and I also read that she’s now Mac’s enemy!? Oh nooo. Maccc
@Mel, so so slow but it’s so so good lol. Loving it so far. Everyone seems to tell me that I should stop after book 5 or at least prepare myself to be disappointed. I feel better knowing that lol
@Fran, I really am. Give it a try if you feel like it. It’s a slow start but when it gets going it’s 👌🏻
@Leigh, everyone seems to say the same. At least I have the first 5 books to keep me happy. Why can’t authors just stop while it’s good though!
@Katya, everyone seems to say the same things about books 1-5 so I can’t wait. I wanna take it slow and savour it but then I’m also so impatient to know more 😂
@Mina, I’m just starting book 3. I’m addicted and this is my crack 🙈. I think the answer by the end will be: Go buy this now! But we’ll see 😅
