it was amazing
bookshelves: debut, southern-gothic, 2021, favorites, william-gay

Pure brilliance à la Cormac McCarthy. I love Southern Gothic. William Gay has nailed it. More later...maybe.
I'm not worthy.

Quotes Blair Liked

William Gay
“While he slept the world spun on, changed, situations altered and grew more complex, left him more inadequate to deal with them.”
William Gay, The Long Home

William Gay
“Hardin lived in a world he manipulated day to day, you never knew when a piece of information might have a use. Life was a jigsaw puzzle someone had kicked apart on the day Hardin was born and he was still putting it back together a piece at a time.”

Better than McCarthy ;o)

Blair Maybe so. I can't wait to read more by him

Cheri Love your review, Blair, I understand the resemblance to McCarthy's writing, the darkness of his stories, the darker side of humanity, but I love the way that he writes these people, brings them to life in a way that makes them feel more fully realized to me. Looking forward to reading this one now.

Blair Thanks Cheri, even though I never gave this a proper review. I know you'll enjoy this one too. Interestingly this one was made into an indie movie starring James Franco 4 or 5 years ago that for some reason hasn't been released yet.

Cheri Blair, I'm kinda surprised if it was already filmed that it didn't come out as a Netflix movie or something along those lines. Especially during this pandemic! I'd still want to read the book first, of course!
