bookshelves: 2020-releases, author-man, dying-earth, dystopia-utopia, sci-fi, ya

1.5ish stars.

To be fair, the first book was only a 3-star read for me. But at least that one was fun. This is joyless and Preachy.

Justine Ok that's it, I'm not reading this. All of my friends are giving it 1 star.

message 2: by Monica (new)

Monica At least you were willing to give it a try. This was an "Aw Hayyell Naw!!" for me from jump. Nope.

message 3: by Jamie (new)

Jamie Dacyczyn If I had more energy, I'd hate-read this one just so I can write a follow-up rant review.....but I don't even care.

message 4: by Rouan (new)

Rouan I was satisfied with the first one; this is a no go for me. I hate when a storyline goes on too long.

message 5: by Dennis (new)

Dennis Barros I’m one of the peeps who really really liked the first one. Will be passing on this one. Unfortunate.

Yeah I saw that Lindsay 1-starred it as well. :(

Lol really I should have known better.

See I can almost recommend it as a hate-read, but who has time for that.

Philip Rouan wrote: "I was satisfied with the first one; this is a no go for me. I hate when a storyline goes on too long."

I agree. The author himself basically said he just wrote it for the money, not because the story needed to be told.

Philip Dennis wrote: "I’m one of the peeps who really really liked the first one. Will be passing on this one. Unfortunate."

You're one of many who loved the first one. Just pretend like this one doesn't exist.

Nicole And another low rating. I’m starting this book, not excited at all to read it.

Stephen Appears that Cline only had one good book in him, the last one and this one being not good.

message 13: by Cori (new)

Cori In what ways was it preachy? That is one of my pet peeves. So many books I've read lately have a political subtext and I'm over it.

message 14: by Philip (last edited Dec 06, 2020 12:30PM) (new) - rated it 1 star

Philip Definite political subtext. And many of the agendas he’s pushing are worthy ones (environmentalism, tolerance), but there’s also a lot of virtue signaling with the main character broadcasting his sainthood by sharing how his sexual fluidity and economic centrism grant him empathy. The thing is, regardless of whether or not you agree with his ideals, he’s heavy-handed to the point that he undermines his own intent.

Cori Thank you. I completely understand what you mean. More and more this is sounding like a book I may not pick up.

message 16: by Sonja (new)

Sonja Arlow I am only seeing disappointing reviews, I loved the first one but loathed Armada so although I have this book I think I am going to take it off my TBR list

message 17: by Christina (new) - added it

Christina Rothfusz I was so looking forward to this release, I absolutely loved the first one, sadly all the reviews looks disappointing

I never read Armada, in part because other people I talked to didn't like it. But I was hoping this would be better. :/

Philip Christina wrote: "I was so looking forward to this release, I absolutely loved the first one, sadly all the reviews looks disappointing"

Yeah even though I didn't love the first one, I enjoyed it and this one was still disappointing. And it seems like there are a lot of people who loved the first one but are still very critical of this one. I hesitate to tell you to give it a try and see for yourself because of that.

Adina (way behind) the firs one was fun but I don't plan to read this one.

Zoran Zivanovic I just finished reading it.

They got me quite annoyed.
